# 1 proper use of the quads?
12-02-2011, 11:27 PM
I have wanted these in the game forever, now they are, but i feel like i'm under using them. I realized going in that they sap engine power, but i seem to be going slower than I thought I would. I'm using the breen set with the reman shields, should I swap that all out on the defiant re-fit? In general what are the popular thoughts on the quads and should I do anything special in the toon build to get more punch out of them? Thanks in advance

I bought the Sao Paulo and discharged it to mount the quads on my Galaxy X. To me, the loss in engine power doesn't hurt because I turn slow anyway. I'm just looking to do a ton of damage with front arc, via my quads, dual banks, quantum and lance.

On an escort though, I would simply go DHC/Quad/Quantum/DHC front and turrets rear.

I would also go Reman shield, Borg deflector, Borg console, Borg engines and make sure you have a tac with Rapid Fire 3.

the proper use of the quads as they are is to take up a bank slot.......the only reason to pick up the sao paulo is for the skin and to have a ship to level up alts in later on. While the quads look and sound awesome i don't feel like taking a damage penalty and also reduce my speed/defense/mobility while flying an escort for what essentially boils down to a cosmetic alteration of dual cannons with less damage. I'll wait for them to put an actually GOOD quad cannon in game that either doesn't have less damage and penalizes you in some way.

I thought the quads were suposed to be the most damaging weapons in the game. They aren't? What can be done to maximise their effectiveness?

phaser relay might give your quads extra kick, but make sure you run all phaser energy to take adavantage of the console bonus.

To answer your question, the reason the Quads aren't as good as a DHC is due to the level that gear scales to, and that's just how it is. They become more useful when our levels scale up, and then become less useful again. Right now though, with the gear available the Quad is inferior to a top notch DHC.

I'd think the proper use would be easy. Point them at the enemy and fire.

The best part to me about the Quads is I find the sound and visual effects to be more satisfying than the DHC when using CRF. And since the quad sound is louder to me I've been enjoying my Tac in her Defiant.

I agree with this. I just bought for the skin, because those weapons are just horrible. They look cool, but they have horrible stats. And why an engine penalty instead of auxilary? Engine power is the lifeblood of escorts. I guess if you use them while leveling up, they're OK if you don't have any dilithium.

I hope they make "standard" variants of quad cannons that you can just purchase with dilithium like any other weapon.

To me, they were more like a mk 10.5 ...
