# 1 360 degree flight?

just a thought, but would it work if we had total 360 degrees of flight space? such as flyin 'upside' down, doing forward/back flips, ect ect. in this way, you could open up a whole new set of tactics that could be used. granted, its not very helpful for cruisers, and may only be of any benefit to escort players, but it just seems it would open things up some more.

The reason we don't have 360 degree flight is upside-down starships are not canon. I do think Crypric could let our inclinations go a bit steeper though.

That's not entirely true... I seem to recall the Enterprise E performed a 180-degree roll, ending 'upside down' relative to her approach when she carried out a point-blank attack run on the Son'a command ship in Insurrection.

The reasoning was more of a gameplay aspect, namely, it encouraged people to not fight along the galactic-plane which would make for some atypical 3-dimensional combat.

This would also have the side effect of everyone always trying to get on top of eachother in a big game of leapfrog since it would effectively negate the ability to shield face in combat.

There was a huge huge huge thread about this a while back, where it was argued over and over.

But basically, for simplicity's state, and to make everything appear more "trek-like", as well as to simplify the damage and shield models.
