what mission is it?nm
Mission: Project Nightingale right?
It's a "new" D'diredex. DON'T get closer than 5km to it. Stay between 5km and 10km awat to stay out of tractor and photonic shockwave range. Science team is very handy to clear the Viral matrix they hit you with.
She is a slow turning ship, try to stay to flanks to avoid her BO with Dual beam banks.
Having said this... I've never had a single issue with this mission, no matter which of the three ship types I've taken through it.
My best advice to you, OP, for any Romulan Warbird - is to make sure you have Polarize Hull and Beam Fire at Will to deal with them, as the common pitfall for fighting them is to be ensared by a tractor beam and pummelled by High Yield Torpedoes.
Even though I stay out of range , he still rips through my shields. I dont understand why it so difficult when I am on normal. i cant lower the difficulty any more...

Do you have any shield healing powers? Emergency Power to Shields? Transfer Shield Strength? Science Team? Reverse Shield Polarity?
Are you distributing your shields as they are weakened? Realistically, at that point in the game, your escort should have enough tactical buffs that the wabird's shields turn to slag if you even look at them the wrong way.
Something isn't right. I went thru that mission yesterday with a commander 4 and didn't have any problems. Check to see that your shields are actually equipped and that you have power to shields.
Also, you might check to make sure you respecced. If you just logged back in, they zeroed out the skills for the new space skill tree. You might not have respecced and therefore have no buffs to your power/hull/shields settings.
If you have done all of these and you are still getting pwned...maybe its you? (Kidding)
What kind of shield are you using? If its not covariant, I'd strongly suggest switching. It might seem like a good idea at the time to use a regenerative shield to try to make up for an escort's reduced capacity, but after that reduction you're left with shields that can only take a few good hits and is probably gone in one big hit (Warbirds have beam overload), and while they're down, they aren't doing anything regardless of what type.
You can make up for low regen through skills fairly easily - training two Emergency Power to Shields ranks and alternating between them goes a long way, with transfer power to shields or even just science team for some quick patchup as needed, but low capacity is a lot harder to compensate for.
On the subject of shields, if you have tray or keybind space, put the even distribution and forward distribution buttons somewhere, I find those two invaluable on my escort. Tactical team can also buy you some uptime on your forward shields.
The 5 tactical BOff powers I have are target weapons subsystems I, tactical team II, cannon rapid fire II,
target shields subsystem I, and torpedo high yield II. Is there some optimal BOff tactical powers I need to swap out? Honestly , everytime I hit the target shields power, it looks like it is doing absolutely nothing.
