Its supposed to keep you playing, do 1-3 STFs a day instead...if the game is F2P they have to find some way to keep people playing in the long term. You do not HAVE to have these items to be efficient. But again, people abuse these ideas, so they dont work...and then the people go and complain.
i agree. these boxes are supposed to be fun, and i dont think cryptic expected the sudden outcry of rage and lawsuits thats flooded the forums. i also get the feeling that the chance of getting this ship (which i dont see why everybody is so crazy about, other then it being unique look to it) goes up if you share the boxes. they did point out that they could be shared with your friends. just a hunch.

as for long term, the game really isnt that old, and it didnt get the four years or so that it usually takes to create a balanced game. take SWTOR for instance. but again, everybody is in a rush to get to the end. o well. their loss.

Agrres with the OP.

Grocery stores put small items and "treats" by the check out lines.

So as everyone who comes in to purchase something would be enticed for an impulse buy on their favorite candy. (NEVER TAKE YOUR KIDS THRU THE CHECK OUT LINE, EVER!!!!!!....)

It just so happens the candy they are selling there is running a game to win a yellow Lambo.

How many people have you ever seen screaming at the store manager that their candy didn't give them a that Lambo after they bought 100 candy bars?...

The issue is that Cryptic has withheld content from the game (a new Escort ship). Escorts have fewer ship hull options that either Cruisers or Science vessels. They have manufactured this shortage that the raffle supplies. This created a climate where people will spend far too much money on the raffle.

Cryptic has failed to disclose the structure of the lottery or the odds of each prize. They have not given the consumer a reasonable expectation of how much they might like to spend to obtain a prize. The consumer is unable to make an informed decision on their purchase, unlike in every single example that has been brought to bear against those spending money on this raffle.

Yes each individual is responsible for how much they spend at the end of the day. The company is also responsible for giving a clear description of the item such that the consumer can make an informed purchase decision. This has not happened here.

Would you buy, with real money, any boxes knowing the drop rate appears to be 0.66%?

Didn't they release like 10 new ships here recently?

Fixed that for ya.

Fixed that one too.

Highlighted the very MOST IMPOTANT PART, and 1 fix.

I didn't buy one, I haven't bought one, I will NEVER buy one. I am responsible for my own C-Points, and I spend them responsibly.
Not on a hundred candy bars trying to get a Blue Beatle cause the wrapper said i could...

It's like buying a pack of Alpha "Magic: The Gathering" cards and then getting prissy because you didn't pull a Black Lotus and full set of Moxes.

Life's rough, innit?

The problem here is that you think this is new. They've been doing this with CO already and been getting the same reactions there. There is literally no chance that the STO team didn't see this reaction coming.

And thus it's impossible to have sympathy for them. They knew what they were doing and did it anyway and now have to deal with the consequences. One reaps what one sows.

Heck, isn't that the argument made by some for why this is okay?

F2P MMO's have been doing this for years, and making money. All Cryptic is doing is saying "goodbye" to the few, and welcoming the many.....

Which of course means the loud and clear message is:
Cryptic doesn't give a rat's behind about their customers, nor the game, and will flush it all down the toilet to pursue greener pastures elsewhere given half the opportunity.

I'm getting tired of hearing about that plie of pilxels.

People can come here and post how much they dislike this grab bag ploy has much has they want but It won't make any diference at all.

Has long has players keep paying for chances to find the golden ticket; Cryptic will keep coming up with ways to sell them those chances.

I could care less if these grab bag gimicks stay or go.

Most of the people that are complaining are only doing so because they want the ship but want a guaranteed way to get it.

I you really want these grab bag things to go way, then stop wanting the shinies.

If people want to spend thousands of dollars on some lines of code then let them, it won't effect my game playing in anyway.

They do share in most of the responsibility, especially when you figure out that if you BUY the box with C-points, you are GUARANTEED a Red box. I have run the event with all my toons(7) the past two days and not once did i receive a red box. I decided to buy some cpoints on the exchange, and lo and behold, EACH and EVERY one was a red box.

This leads me to believe
1) the color of the box is NOT random, and
2) Cryptic knows it and the random is anything but.
