If you're browsing the exchange and are looking for resolve duffs of green or higher quality, you can very easily catch the wrung duff, meaning you can buy it and have it on passive duty. And then you wanna run an assignment, and it even says it's doable, butt then once you open the assignment, there is a black hole in the left hand side of the selection screen. It says there is a resolve available, butt you can't pick it. Guess what? You just bought a duff from the opposing faction and you had no chance to know. Obviously, it's not recummended to buy a Gorn, Klingun, Orion, Nausicaan or Lethean duff as a Fed toon as it's 90% KDF. Butt with all those Cardassians out now, it's impossible to know which one is for Fed and which for KDF.

PLEASE, dear Crypticians (new race purrhaps), make that red border for cummon duffs also for uncummon, rare and very rare duffs, so people actually can see if the duff belungs to the KDF or the Federation. Thanks a lot and keep on duffing!

Yes, it really is annoying and currently the only way to keep certain Doffs apart is by looking at their ranks or the emblem in the background.

But it seems that help is on the way. The following picture is from the Tribble Test Realm:

It seems that we're getting a small, faction-specific icon in the upper right corner, as well as different colored frames.

The exchange on tribble also has a control to filter out unusable items, which mainly applies to boffs and doffs.

Look at the backdrop behind the head. Fed emblem is a cicular thing, KDF emblem is a three-pointed star

Hope this doesn't apply to the Mail too.

I'm presently sending via mail all my Tac DOffs from my KDF accounts to my FED accounts as to help building the shipyard..... Beats grinding or spending oodles of ECs on common DOffs on the exchange.

Also you can right click to display the full data of the Doff. It will give you a larger picture, and show the rank insignia the Doff has.
