http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Booby_Trap_(episode)

For game purposes it should suffer some form of limited damage so one could shoot through it eventually, but not too quickly or it becomes useless for gameplay.
They didn't blast it with torps in the show b/c they were afraid the shields wouldn't withstand the explosion.

Also it's theoretically possible that the torps would suffer from the same energy drain as the ship... leaving them sitting dead in space too.

The way this was shown in the show it worked against everything... so if they tried to stick to canon the assimilators would drain klinks power as much as they would drain feds power.

In the show sure, its a possibily. In the game Kinetic weapons are its weakness.
Which makes me wonder if other kinetic damage attacks effect it so easily.

Evidently for the purposes of the game the KDF weaponized the technolgy so like the AMS, it target specific.
If the FF rules had lasted things may have been different, who knows.

Energy weapons will kil it as well, if one can out damage the assimilator before it kills the shooter.

And smart teamwork kills them even faster, but the best thing to do is run away from its AoE.
Wow, the Fed Runner console would be really helpful for that.

Anyway, Enjoy them while you can as the deadliest weapon of both factions is the whine that kills ideas before said faction members learn to cope.

Remember, this is the same crew that let Wesley Crusher get enough access to the ship, and he nearly destroyed it how many times????

So sitting there and just dying was suuuuuuuuuuuuch a better plan than risking taking hull damage...

That same theory would have made it impossible for the Enterprise to escape the way it did as well....

Or they could just make it a nice gimmicky weapon.....

Well, if the answer to the problem had been "Shoot the (expletive deleted) thing with torpedoes!" We wouldn't have had much of a show to watch.

Well thats not true. The writers would've plot armored the Enterprise in standard fashion. Can't be killing the heroes now, can we?
Though many redshirts may have had to give their lives to see it happen.

I'm not so sure about that. But I also wanted to have two or three hours of 24 each series devoted to Jack Bauer taking a nap....
