I'm still putting my new loadout together, as I just got my Qin Raptor last night. However, I expect that I'll be sticking with a mix of regular and heavy disruptor cannons up front, plus one photon torpedo. To the rear, I was planning on two turrets and the Bio-Neural Warhead (a Tricobalt torp with a targ-brain AI ) off of my free Quorgh refit - the latter is a nifty toy, which will even acquire a new target if the first is destroyed, but recharges a bit too slowly for regular use up front.

Do you think I should switch out some cannons for banks in the forward array? Any other advice?

I've never noticed a problem with it, but I'm not a min-maxer like some players are. Those guys get into the *serious* details in order to squeeze out every point of efficiency and yield they can get. They could probably answer that question with certainty.

if your talking about dual banks, i use one on my bop. and i do so love the bio neural warhead. its great to use on your first pass, specially if you were all sneaky sneaky sneak sneak before ripping them a new one. keep the cannons. they do more damage anyway the closer you get.

I like a Dual Beam Bank in the front sometimes. If you have a bridge officer with Beam Overload, that adds a nice punch to your alpha strike. Plus, it looks and sounds pretty cool when it fires.

If you do that, bear in mind that your Tactical consoles may need adjusting. Cannons and turrets are modified by the Prefire Chamber, but beams aren't. You might instead want to get consoles that modify your type of energy weapons (e.g. phasers, disruptors), because those will modify *all* of your energy weapons -- beams, cannons, turrets -- provided they all emit the same type of energy.

For KDF most ships can use cannons so you may find that you do not want to alpha strike groups as you cannot get away in time. Instead decloak when you have most opponents in the front 45 degree arc so you get the fire bonuses and let rip with cannons and DHC's along with your turrets/Bio warhead and a nice quantum or photon torp. With a decent Scatter volley and torpedo spread on the way in, most NPC targets will be dead before you get to them so long as you dont go in too fast

For bigger ships just decloak when you are parked up its tail pipe and fly at about 1/4-1/2 impulse keeping in its rear arc to let your cannons tear it to bits. This is not good v's pc's as they just tend to eject warp plasma at you but NPC's dont so..

Edit: I also found it useful when setting my cannon loadout to make sure one of my cannons was phasers to have the chance of taking out shields.
