I do understand the concept of making ship ablilties tied to consoles but, the one that make the least sense to me is the Saucer Separation with the Galaxy Retrofit. What is the logic on making this ability tied to a console when the Galaxy is currently the only ship in game that has the ability. I know they are working on the Odyssey to have the ability too but, even at that, you are tieing an ability to a console that only two ships will be able to use. This in not a rant or anything, I just want to understand the logic behind it.

Every ship with a special ability lost a console for their special ability. Every ship with a special ability got a new console slot to house their console which now represents that ability. If you don't like the special ability, but do like the ship, you can now lose the console and get an extra console to use that you didn't have before.
Ablative Armor and Tachyon Detection Grid are also one ship only. The cloak is two ships, and MVAM is two ships on a technicality as they're the same skin.
The idea is to allow some versatility in the ships that have those abilities. You can use a different slot than the one the ships originally lost for their powers, or drop the power entirely for something else if you're more interested in the bridge layout or if it isn't very useful in the parts of the game you spend most of your time playing.
Because of the ridge from the lance back to the deflector, the separation plane is pretty ugly, though. Not that some of the Prometheus variants in game don't have worse - lookin' at you Phoenix upper hull.
