I would like to bestow a concept on cryptic-
You have 50 players. With respecs at 400 cp each maybe 4-5 will buy a respec. thats lets say 2000 cp spent.
Now, reduce the price to 100 cp each. At 100 cp each, all 50 players can very easily obtain enough dil to purchase one, or will simply spend the cash to buy one. That increases 2000 cp to 5000 cp used. Translation- more cp=more money.

Volume instead of high cost... Think like China here.

Its going to get worse when F2P launches and the price on respecs will nearly double...

Never really understood the need for respecs on an industrial scale. I thnk I have done a respec once on my first character in almst 2 years and never on my others. Saving of, course, mandatory ones.

Why do people feel ther need to swap skills so very often? Play a new toon if you want another skill-set.

Given the pension that We are getting, you could respec one toon every month if that as your wish, or indeed spend 1/2 million dilithium on it in the exchange.

Maybe because we dont want to waste our time grinding all the gear and accolades over and over again.
In addition, before they ripped respeccing for merits away from us, a player could respec as often as once a week if he/she desired to do so.

Should also point out that the way things are laid out now, unless you spend $$$ your ability to respec directly interferes with your ability to get new equipment and ships, which it did not do before.

i never understood why people did the accolade hunter game anyway....
there is NOTHING in it for you.
You can do absolutely NOTHING with those points.
And the Points aren't even account wide, so if i'm on a char with low accolade points, that says nothing about how long or much i have been playing STO to other players.

Grinding Energy Credits and Anomalies makes more sense than grinding Accolades and even that is nonsense...

OK some of the Accolades have these 2% damage and resistance buffs, but those are exactly the kind of buffs that you don't need to work for, just use what you want to use and those Accolades will come on their own.

Also by now, with the DOff System, you can pretty much AFK grind your char up to max level, skip all missions except the ones with shiny gear.

Move dilithium from one char to the next (or buy items that are Bind on Equip) and he is all set up for *Endgame*.
Just keep those DOff assignments running, you will be VA1 in no time.

And you don't even need dilithium, you can just grind some Space STF's on normal to get endgame gear.
If you want to PvP with that char... oh well that's another Story, then you need a bit more special gear i guess.

Anyway, everybody who is serious about this game should at least have one SCI / ENG / TAC for FED and KDF = 6 Chars, with ALL KIT's in the inventory.
To properly fight your enemy you need to know how he functions, you can't beat a SCI/TAC/ENG if you don't know how his powers work, the only way to know for real is to have played one.

Just because you don't understand why some people do certain things does not invalidate the fact that they do and may enjoy doing it.
And yes, I do have one toon of every class for both factions(total of 6).
But my two faction main characters are the ones I spend the most time on, and sometimes its just nice mixing things up with the same class, such as an engineer in an escort or science ship rather than the same old cruiser.

Yes but why should 99% care for the 1%.

I still have 6 respec token form all the one i got for free.. and I wasted one because I didn't pay attention on what I did once....

I always test my builds on tripple, also there where a lot skill tree calculators around and maybe with f2p we again some some more that get updated...

I rememer the times wen there where MMOs with absolutely no chance to respec... screw up your build... well you own fault, either live with it or rebuild from scratch... good times...

Pretty arrogant to assume only "1%" respec on a regular basis and for the same reasons.
And this is not about giving those that want to be able to conveinently respec something new.
Its about giving people back something that was taken away from them in the first place.

I bet its even less people who constantly respec.. remember how much have fallen into the dilithium cap... yeah I was one of them.. hell most people who play (what ever cryptic qualifies as such) still hasn't reached VA or even RA....

Its as always. If people do it and they assume they are the majority, cause I do it.. everyone does it... typical fail logic...

WHy does it bother people so much that others may want to respec even if they do not?

It's not like we're asking to take your respec ability away so we can have it.

Sometimes you make mistakes, sometimes you find something that'll improve your build and sometimes you just need to test things out, just try getting accurate STF and PvP build testing done on Tribble.

Some of us spent our free respecs finding the build we like, some of us were too early to even get any free respecs.

The very least Cryptic can do is return the spent free respecs to those players that used them considering just how much the Skill Tree changed or give a grace period of free respecs until F2P so people can work out a build that works.
