I can understand their reasoning for it. Star Wars is very popular, and Bioware is extremely popular, so they dont want half the planet trying to login to their severs several days early. lol I dont really want a repeat of ****'s preorder launch.

Btw.... several 10ites are planning to be in the Pride of the Empire TOR guild. I'll be playing sometime in a couple months I think; I'm avoiding the launch.

As long as it's not a PvP or RP server, I'll be with the Tenites....eventually....heheh

No. Honestly I found out about the first come first served before I pre-ordered. I know the whole time I'd get less time to play "early" hehe

In truth it really doesn't bother me. I don't have a problem with staggering...I just don't agree with rewarding the earlier pre-orders that much....Makes them "elitist" in some people's eyes. "I was here first...I deserve more then you" kind of crap always appears...but meh. Whatever. I'll still be giving it a chance....It's something to do while STO has started to bore the snot out of me lately.

While I personally would have loved to have seen more designs like the image you posted, I also understand that BioWare had a certain aesthetic that had to be maintained. They were already locked into a general idea of what ships looked like around this time period, and since everything in SW is canon unless contradicted by the movies or television series, they were bound by precedent.

My first BioWare game was KOTOR, which I consider to be one of my favorite games of all time. I also loved Jade Empire, Mass Effect 1 and 2 (and thought Mass Effect Galaxy was pretty fun), and Dragon Age: Origins. So far the only game that's been a slight disappointment for me was Dragon Age II, but even that I enjoyed quite a bit.

Exactly, and the dev blogs that have been posted on the official site going back to 2008 make this very clear. There are certain aesthetics that are clearly associated with the Star Wars brand, which BioWare had to stay true to. Over the course of two weekends I spent about 28 or so hours testing out SWTOR, and it's going to be a fantastic game. It really is what BioWare has been saying it is - KOTORs 3 through 8.

I think the game has a lot of potential... but two things are currently putting me off.

#1: No 3D space combat.

With the legacy of excellent SW space combat sims they really REALLY dropped the ball by implementing the system they currently have instead.

#2: Cost

IMO $50 plus $15/mo is a bit excessive. I pay $50 for a new 360 game and it doesn't cost me a dime to play. I'm really having trouble swallowing $50 up front on top of the subscription cost.

If I end up with a decent x-mas bonus this year I'll probably run right out and buy it... otherwise I'll probably be waiting 3-6 months to see how things develop. Sad that STO has really ruined my desire to play PC games anymore.

While I understand the sentiments, I think it should be recognized how incredibly difficult it is to design a game that involves both a compelling space component and an equally compelling ground component.

X-Wing and TIE Fighter, for instance, had ZERO ground game elements. EVE Online, widely considered to be a great space game (although I've never played it) had no ground components at all until just recently.

And we all know the story with STO. Space combat is superb in almost every respect for the type of game, yet the ground game suffers tremendously.

For the majority of purposes in gaming, and in the Star Wars movies, the action was really what was going on around the people as they interacted on planets, and occasionally on ships. Space itself (apart from a few specific climactic battles) was really just part of the travel sequence from planet A to planet B.

In that respect, I can accept SWTOR for what it is at launch, a superb ground game, with what is actually an entertaining space minigame. That said, I expect BioWare will be increasing the space game over time, and they've already said they have a team already working on a "big" space project, but that it will be down the line before it is brought into the game.

And I do understand the cost factor, but when you think about it, for that $50 you are getting essentially 8 different story lines that you can play. Most of those 360 games you buy, you're going to pay $50 for just ONE of those stories.

There has been a LOT of effort that has gone into building these environments and systems, and I believe it readily shows over competitor games and their efforts. And while the subscription is a lot to ask for, I am pretty confident BioWare will be adding new content into the game at a pace quickly enough to make that monthly subscription worthwhile.

Just my thoughts.

and STO is not for kids, the way things are going here i get the impression with season 6 they will add flying mounts that you can use on planets to bypass the combat because they are bleeding subs atm, F2P will save this game for a while, but then pretty much all new content will have to be bought.

I'm thinking each new season will end up costing the price of a full game by the time you have everything needed (content wise) from the cstore.

I would rather give EA/Bioware my cash than support a game that puts more effort in a cash shop than adding new content to a game that desperately needs it.

Season 6: all the content we have promised you since launch, but it will cost you an arm and a lag.......
