Maybe it's because I'm a sci, or maybe I'm missing something, but I don't really understand why anyone would actually invest in Threat Generation. Isn't having the enemy shoot at you generally a bad thing?

I can see where it might be useful in tanks to draw aggro away from others, but in general I don't really see the utility of this skill. Is the small passive bonus to damage resistance significant enough to make it worth putting points in?

I was wondering this too but I expect it's probably as eng/cruisers were intended to be tanks. In many other games tank players have various abilities to draw fire away from support and dps but it's unusual the way they've implemented it as a permanent stat rather than ability.

tanking in this game (against npc's) *endgame stf's
is like tanking in gw2. Sure you can take 3 shot but youre not gonna survive all those plasma torps coming at you.

I can imagine it on infected elite ground.

assuming it works properly the "queens" chamber will be fun fun fun

when i say fun i mean respawn respawn respawn

I blow up enough without more "threat generation" so I plan on skipping these skills.

But if you read closely those skills give you more Damage Resistance to compensate for the additional agro. Might be something a PvP'er would spec to get more damage resistance since threat generation only works on NPCs.

These skills are more for cruiser captains to pull aggro away from the tactical and science ships, same goes for ground engineers with shield related abilities. If you're a tactical or science captain then you'll probably want to steer clear of these skills unless you like waiting the respawn timer tick down.

I skipped it also, from what I last read on Tribble the additional resists were pretty minor (3% or 4% unless it changed I think).

IMHO, it would've been better to have threat reduction. Escort Captains surely would've loved that.

And on the ground you got Draw Fire to increase threat anyhow.

I maxed these out. As a soloer, I'm gonna take the heat anyway in space even flying an escort and the survivability boost might be worth it. On the ground, I figure it's a wash in STFs if everyone takes it and it enhances survivability.... I think the ideal would be everyone maxing out the ground version.

Generally people in cruisers should use this since you *should* be tanking in STFs while escorts do most of the damage. Using this skill will help keep the enemy focused on you and not switching to one of the escorts which won't be able to hold out as long against a powerful enemy.

See, I can see that.

My thinking is, a soloer or PvPer should take it anyway for the damage mitigation it offers and I'm eager to test it out further in my Prommie since I barely get a scratch in most fights while my other sections end up a bit too beat up for my tastes.
