Well, I fly a BoP and A Sao Paulo/Defiant and find its really a fight between full time gamers and everyday Star Trek fans, the gamers really wipe anyone else out and rule the PvP arenas. Not a lot of fun, I've tried researching specs and getting all purple gear, playing on Advanced and Elite levels before going to PvP, changing/experimenting with DOFFS/BOs, etc,,, and I still get waxed most of the time, either character/ship. The only reason I do it is to get the deutirium. The PvP que should sort out players somehow and assign better balanced groups. I'd really like to watch two groups of gamers stalemate each other,,, I'll keep trying though, next I'm gonna get a game controller rather than the kybd and mouse I am using, lose the arrow on the screen A LOT, next is a headset with mic so I can talk to others, maybe that'll help but I do feel sorry for the people I play with, it seems I just keep getting killed and respawn only to fly back in the fight and get killed in seconds again and again. I'll keep trying though.

Never give up, never surrender,,,

Keybinds, you need offense and defense keybinds! Unless you're not a pianist you can't play well a PvP fight without them!

so unbelieveably not true. I have played this game for 600 days without a single keybind (beyond the ones you can set in the options menu). You can compete. It is more about battlefield awareness and coordination with your teammates than it is about how many buttons you press. I have always felt that keybinds take the "Player" part of PvP, and toss it out the window (I have been beaten by a ship whose pilot was AFK). I will admit that I have added, recently, a macro to distribute my shields. Spamming that power has ruined 3 of my keyboards since this game launched.

I used to have distribute shields binded to fire all phasers, but recently dropped it because it was slowing down my boff power activations even slower when I hit those buttons. Had to let go of spacebar for each power I activated to make sure it would activate. It's bad enough how powers sometimes don't activate without that issue. Got sick it being even worse, so now tac team is even more of a crutch for me.

they do help when set-up correctly but are not needed if one has the ability to hit keys rapidly and without looking or evidently if one flies via WASD and uses the mosue to click.

Flying via Mouse, they do help as one handed key finding is difficult for some.

Any who wish to use them need to look at teh Keybind for Dummies thread and ask questiosn.

I love my keybinds.

Then he was not using Key binds as one must be present to spam said keys for them to function.
Maybe he was macroing from a keyboard that could be programmed?

I like the key binds and do not find they take anything away from the skill needed to PvP. they merely make it easier for me to execute my long combo's by spamming a single key to do so over having to look at my keyboard find each key and then hit it in sequence.
Keybinds are inherently unstable though and often execute in reverse, skip powers and fire out of sequence - so a little tweaking is always needing when using them to make them perform as needed,
One still has to have situational awareness and watch what one is doing though.

I haven't noticed this yet ( Distribute shields or the fire commands interupting the rest of the key bind in question). How long is your keybind?
Shorter is better.
For the msot part though I find that the individual activation times of powers in a keybind will often overide each other causing the whole keybind to fire out of sequence and the General Commands had no effect on siad firing order.

i can hear an old 80's movie theme some song playing right now....

but na, you dont need keybinds. ive never used them and compete with the top regularly. of course i die a ton, and sometimes in 2 seconds like you mentioned. theres nothing you can do when a good escort pilot spikes you on your tac team cooldown.

you fly escorts like me, gettin killed is what we do best. i bet if you had a star cruiser buddy with extend shields you wouldnt feel this way. but keep practicing sir! and feel free to pm @CaptainHorizon anytime for tips, teaming, testing...you name it.

one last thing tho, if the only reason you pvp is for the rewards, then maybe look for another avenue. you were correct in stating that this is where the gamers go. we are here for the competition, not its rewards.

have fun kill bad guys.
