Ok I'm a VA engineer flying a dreadnought (all Borg) and a back ship defiant refit ( 3 Borg, aegis shield). What are the best energy weapon type and torps for these ships? Dreadnought is a tank/support dps and the defiant is straight dps.

It is generally accepted that phasers and disruptors are good all around, but on an escort, antiproton is favored for critical damage. Tetyron and polaron are considered somewhat weak, and plasma (except for the torpedos & mines) is considered the weakest.

It is considered to best stick with one energy type, and use multiple tactical consoles for that energy type.

Over all, you can do fine with any energy type, and depending on your build, it may not make a noticeable difference in PVE. I also have a KDF running tetyrons in an escort, and it is fine.

Ok so I've decided to keep my phasers as my energy weapon type. Now which is the best torp for a cruiser and a escort? Quantums, photons, hargh pengs, etc? And how many now with global cool down reduced?

For a Tactical, you are using the Dreadnought incorrectly (yes, you CAN use it incorrectly) if you're using anything but Phasers. Even with the new skill system.

Engineer or Sci in the ship, Antiproton beam boats are acceptable.

Torpedoes on a tactical Dreadnought, I prefer Tricobalts. If Engineer or Sci, you don't really need any. 8 beams will suffice. But if you need one, I'd probably have one that doesn't require a BOFF skill like HY, such as Hargh-Peng.

For Defiant, Antiproton if you want raw damage potential.

I tried antiproton mk x and didn't really see any increase in dps across both my dread and my defiant. I'm an engineer capt so maybe I don't get max out of it. I'm messing around with a photon launcher on my defiant right now for more dps. I'm goin for a few hargh pengs right now to test them out for my dread. Antiproton really that good?

Disruptor actually provides higher sustained DPS, but Antiproton is capable of greater "numbers" for per hit damage with crit procs.

Up to you.

On the other hand, one good Phaser proc on shields followed by a torpedo and you've already done more damage than any Antiproton shot.

Since we no longer have to spec into one kind of damage, why does it matter what type of weapons are on the Dreadnought?

The more weapons of a certain type of energy you are running, the higher the chance of activating the proc of that energy type.

I was thinking of disruptors but wasn't sure. I read your guide to dreadnought after F2P. Are cannons and turrets really useful?
