So a little birdy told me lapsed accounts can come back early. "cool" I thought and figured I'd come check it out.

The first thing, I found was honestly kind of insulting. Being forced to skill into lolground. No one likes ground, and no, it's not because "ground is hard!" it's because ground is boring. Completely boring. There are any number of scifi games that do ground far better than this one. So most of us, who are actually smart enough to figure out the skill tree in the first place realize, ground is so mind numbingly easy, and boring that it's not worth investing points into.

No one likes Ground Cryptic, either give them completely separate skill trees or put the point allocation back to where it was before I left.

A new skill tree... where about half the skills do not actually work, or are completely pointless to use. As far as I can see, Inertial Dampeners means nothing, same with Subystem Repair (still this one has been literally a waste of points since launch).
Threat Generation skill.... lol nuff said. This game's pve is so bad that you don't have to worry about threat. It's just another trap option thrown in.
The drain resistance skill is also as far as I can see worthless, as is Driver Coils. Given how faulty the investment math is anyway, this is a bad situation made worse by whatever poor sucker invests in these literally worthless skills. Ironically this almost if you are smart and not an idiot, makes the mandatory lolground ranks a joke for ''balancing'' the game. Just avoid the trap skills and you'll have more than enough points. There's no Choice made there.

Skill Tree Math, this is a failing of the game presently as well, as the space bar cruiser players need very little points to retain their full effectiveness pre season 5 vs the Escort, and BOP pilots who have to be very good at math in order to retain effectiveness fortunately I'm just just very good at math but extremely good and managed to eek out just abit more out of my ships (not just Escorts and bops but my cruisers too). Cruisers were already too good, now Escorts and BOPs are pretty much reserved for the best of the best, due to how the skill point investments shake down.
Getting rid of the mandatory Lolground ranks and fixing the worthless space skills will take care of this issue.

Console changes, how hard would it have been to keep the old consoles, helping the same powers? Seriously? For that matter why did the + to power level consoles get an unnecessary nerf (as most people considered them Bupkiss to start with. Now there really is no point to using them.) Sure I've got dilithium to fix my ships damaged sci and engi slots. But some people won't. While we are discussing the subject, cryptic made it a point to get rid of energy specialization, this was a move I applaud in spirit. However once again cryptic proves it's half hearted nature though in the execution, as the Base Consoles, (Prefire, Warhead, Directed Mod Consoles for beams) put up less of a bonus than the energy specific consoles.

This makes the Prefires and etc a Trap option that newbies are going to fall into, (which you then can couple with the shenanigans of the worthless space skills) making them even less effective than they already were going to be.

I already know there isn't any new content to this game and won't be, and frankly since this game is free to play now I don't really care anymore. I have much better games in my stable that actually get content updates. Long as pvp is something resembling balanced I'll be happy. Too bad it isn't.

So onto the Cstore. The villainous and evil Cstore. Pay to Win, has hit in full force as I predicted it would, and it seems particularly stupid. The only new cstore ships that I've seen that aren't blatantly Overpowered, is the BOP and new Defiant with the completely useless quad cannons.

However the biggest mistake with the new cstore ships none of these unlock Tier 5 skins or in one case doesn't unlock a T5 version of a ship everyone's been asking for since launch (the Akira). On my first night back as I was browsing the cstore for Tier 5 skins for my ships, I stumbled upon no less than 3 ships I would have probably bought to use the skins for. Luckily I am not an idiot and read the ships all the way through and saw nothing about them unlocking T5 skins, and asked my buddies in opvp about them. Dodged a real bullet on that one, however it highlights a serious problem. That was 3 ships (two at 800 points one at I believe 900) that you just lost the sale of.

I wanted that X Wing knockoff Bop, so bad too. (ironically it was the one with the useless quad cannon... I was just going to vendor the quad after purchase)

The game is still too light on content, and there are some serious mis steps in the skill tree, to say nothing of the Cstore ships being even more of a ripoff than they were before since you'll get to use your nice looking ship for all of five minutes if you even half heartedly play this game.

speaking for everyone, like saying 'No one likes Ground', is insulting. i love it, before it got changed to the fast-paced version, and after

Inertial Dampeners means you get a resist to certain science debuffs. you'd know that if you actually read through it carefully...

the skill system was streamlined and simplified for the F2Pers, so it's here to stay.

consoles were adjusted to FIT the new math, so they're rebalanced, only a nerf to those who care about small differences in their balance

this game is owned by Perfect World now, you're surprised Pay-to-Win actually happened? and besides, the game is easy on it's own, and the actual difference of those ships is minimal

the content lightness is the only thing many will agree on, the rest will vary

With respect almost everything you have said is absolute nonsense. I suggest you play the game and actually learn how it works before posting. In addition your signature shows that you have your own bash Cryptic agenda so I really don't see any point in continuing this discussion.

Good day to you sir

Ground honestly isn't that bad anymore. Sure there's plenty of room for improvement, that, sure, will probably never come, but I've been playing TOR (already canceled) and no matter how often people tell me ground combat rules in there, I just keep wishing for a phaser rifle. You can wave those glowsticks around all you want without EVER getting the instant satisfaction that comes from smashing the back-end of a Type-II into your opponent's face.

As for the rest, TL;DR.

I've learned that people who are absent from the game for three months, then come back and probably play less than a full day's worth of time are instantly experts on the game and speak for everyone!

I wonder if they are like that in their everyday lives too ? LOL

And for the record I LOVE GROUND - infected ground is my favourite map. I now have the much sought after accolade of MACO Team Specialist which is even why I changed my handle, I would love to go for Team Commander but I know it is going to take a very long time to get Cure and Infected optionals on ground elite, ridiculously difficult and challenging even for my Fleet MACO expert team who can run through normal infected in less than 20 min without dying too much LOL

In all fairness 3 months is not enough time to evaluate any changes - nor to assume there should be big changes in that time. Cryptic has spent the last 7 months converting to FTP and so has not been focused on many additions to the game in that time. The only new things to be added in the last 3 months are DOFFs, random Daily events, and the Deferi Invasion. Everything else would be exactly as the OP left it when he quit 3 months ago.

Once FTP is finished the real question is how much will the game change in the next 3 months: between January 17th and April 17th?
