# 1 Gorn minefield action - As if!

I played the Gorn miefield fleet action yesterday and are Cryptic serious?

It takes a minimum of 5 players to launch but it is SO out of whack with the spawn rates its not even funny. We were all Commander level with reasonably decent cruisers,escorts etc and yet we got totally hammered. I cant remember the exact order it went in but it got to the point where we had to destroy the battleships (after killing 36 crusiers backed up by infinite frigate respawns) and one by one we quit due to the total insanity of it all.

Every single time we respawned it was in the middle of heavy enemy groups or minefields and at several points I respawned only to get instantly vaporised. I did earn like 1800 points but the mission was pretty much unfinishable. It reminded me too much of the Starbase 24 action where everyone quit one by one after being ground down by infinite Klingon respawns.

What I dont get is when I play the Borg alerts more often than not I only die once or twice (usually after flying into range of tractor probes or annoying the mothership too much). If the Borg actions are possible to complete with the right playstyle then how comes the Gorn or Klingons are able to smash me like a bug?

Going on Cryptics logic a combined Gorn/Klingon battlegroup should be able to jump up and down all over the Borg and have plenty of firepower left to crush the Federation. I just think that both of these actions need to have their initial strength and respawn rate SERIOUSLY toned down. As they stand they are just boring and unenjoyable grind fests which I shan`t go near with the proverbial 10 ft pole any time soon.

Unless I`m actually playing a BSG game and the Klingons and Borg are actually Cylons who can just jump straight into another body/ship and carry on fighting in which case I apologise.

I think all of the fleet actions (inclusind DS9 which was taken from us so long ago) need a serious overhaul. It's not worth the queueing right now in their bugged state. SB 24 has no ground portion anymore for months, Klingon Scout Force is the only one which basically works okay, Ice Mining is doable in a good group, but noone wants to do ground FA's ... Big Dig ... okay next one ... Crystalline Entity ... I think if it's not an organised knowing group, you can completely forget playing that one either ... Gekli Feeding Grounds, well that one is okay, if just those Geklis weren't so hard to command around to get into their bubbles, lol. At least it's not bugged anymore, as far as I know.

So, you get what I mean ... just please have a look at all FA's again and make them worth to play, with NEW rewards (scaling if possible) ... please? *puppy dog eyes*

SB24 : ground portion missing
KSF : OK
BIg DIg : OK
GMF : Not sure whats going on OP, last time i tried it was doable
CE : Working as intended, virtually impossible for PUGs, but why not have one thing in game that isn't pugable
DS9 : has been pulled from game for VA's, fix coming soon™ since 2009, buggy as hell
Gekli : last i checked bugged on Tribble and Holo, some ghekli won't advance the counter, can't be finished

Sooo 4 out of 7 are working, hope FA were part of what D'angelo meant when talking about fixing long-standing issues.

These could be fun, (esp. DS9, CE, and Gekhli)
- if they were working reliably and on holo
- if non-tacs had a more realistic and systematic chance at getting the accolade/trophy (ie. count healing as well as damage and debuffing to calculate 1st place, to encourage teamwork, instead of punishing it)
- if rewards would scale

in short: not happening before 2014

I was with a 20-man group that beat Crystalline Entity the other week. We got an e-mail from Cryptic saying we were the first group to do so in 4 MONTHS.

I've beaten Gorn Minefield a few times... it's really not all that difficult.

What people don't realize is that the enemy ships (and mines) keep respawning forever. If you stay in one place to fight them you will be there till time ends. The idea is to complete one objective then leapfrog to the next group. When you get to the final carrier have everyone focus on its rear end... drop the shields and kaboom, mission complete.

I like the Gorn Minefield PvE

Sure, at lower levels it's a real pain. But VA, it offers a great challenge. There's actually enough ships on the board where you have to actually think about where you go (or at least crank the engines and scan those mineral deposits before you're swarmed by two dozen Vishaps *L*).

I've played the CE mission at least 2 dozen times over my career with this game, and I have yet to do anything other than waste hours of my time. In fact, to this day, I have not seen/read a confirmed, guaranteed way to beat the damn thing. I'm all for a good challenges, but at this point Cryptic may as well drop the mission entirely - it's pretty much unbeatable.

/yes, I've tried replicating strategies used in YouTube videos

Teamwork and Gorns are dead. Even on really low levels this mission is a lot of fun as long as poeple in team cann work together and coordinate. On RA/VA levels it's not neccessary, ships are strong enough to hold on, but on lower levels - almost a must. And a lot of fun when the players work as a group. A real task group send to do the job.

If you are a low level loner and want just fly merrily around - then yes, Gorn Minfield is a royal pain in the ***.

I actualy think about creating new toon and leveling it only through PvP and Fleet Actions (and setting game on elite). May be interesting.

Part of the reason people find the Gorn Minefield FA so difficult is because they don't pay attention to mission parameters. If you don't do what the mission tells you to do then you're just wasting time and more than likely going to be worn down by respawns. I'll break it down part by part so those new to the FA will have a chance to complete it.

1st part - Free the freighters trapped by mines on the big asteroids.
Tip: Stick together as a team and fight your way from one big asteroid to another, freeing the trapped freighters, or break to the outside edge and work it from there. Once you have all 10 freighters liberated either break away to the right or left and fly around frigates or fly up and over them to the next objective.

2nd part - Destroy 36 crusiers
Tip: I always like to do this one from the right or left outside edge, less likely to be mobbed by respawns. Once you have all 36 cruisers destroyed again you can either fly up and over the crusiers or around them to the next objective.

3rd part- Destroy 12 battleships and 60 mines
Tip: You will come to an immense minefield just boost shields and let them detonate against your ship, clear out as many as you can, you'll have no problem breaking 60 in short order. Battleships will be on the other side of minefield, team up and take them out. This is the part where clearing out the mines is helpful since if they're cleared you won't have them exploding against your hull at the same time the battleships are firing at you.
Note: This part is actually harder on the Klingon side since mixed among the battleships there are dreadnoughts.

4th and final part- Kill the Dreadnought
Tip: The Dread will be hugged up against an array of turrets, you can either break all the turrets then go after Dread or kite Dread away from turrets then kill him. Either way seems to work ok. Have team concetrate fire on one shield facing, fwd, rear, either side, doesn't matter. Take shield down and make Dread a ball of flames.

Follow that and communicate to team what needs to be done and you will be able to finish it. i've had people complain to me how unbeatable these FA's are but all can be completed fairly easily if you know what you are doing, and yes that includes the ground missions too. The one exception is the Crystaline Entity which I have only seen completed twice in my over 200 days of playing STO.

That's a good solid write up. I will say that during the first bit it is very difficult to not aggro surrounding groups of frigates. It does make for a sad feeling when the group splits off into single ships and proceed to gather every frigate possible to the spawn point. Good times!

And is crystalline entity that hard now? I'm flummoxed. Or do people just not want to do it?

But yes these missions need some help. Perhaps they could be put on the Red Alert system?
