Have seen something rather funny today in a NORMAL Space STF.

did fly my Sovereign Cruiser for a change

full Borg Set


my Shields were pounded so i activated RSP3 (yes i still use that)

my shields went up to full instantly because the Borg just hit that hard, and that while 2 or 3 of the shield drain thingies were active.

anyway my Shields are at 100% at that moment when i see a... i think Plasma(?) Torpedo (the ones you can't target) flying towards me, so i fire brace for impact, polarize hull and hazard emitters as fast as i can.... not sure how many were actually active when the torp hit me

and boom Hull down to 25%
shields STILL at 100%



???

this was normal, not Elite.

i've done about 100 STF's in my Escorts and THAT has never happened to me, how is this even possible?




i guess it's possible that the torp took out the shield facing and that my RSP3 filled it up again instantly, but if that was the case it was so fast that i could not see it.

Sometimes, having my hull around 70 to 80% with shields at near full. That One and Fast Instant death shot, just take out the ship.

And I look to see the number too, if I catch it.

There is no PC ship that high with hull and shield restistance to sustain that type of blow.

Also, keep in mind the latest feature is now Threat Control, if you are doing a lot of DPS, you gain their immediate attention, if not using that ability, no possible survival. If you are...some chance. But won't know mysrlf, since I delcine it and shifted the points to more needed areas.

Is it just me or do NPC torpedoes work MUCH better than ours? Especially plasmas. Hell, the Romulans and Remans can have their D'deridexs fire multi-High Yields. Gotta love it when the NPCs have cheat codes.

Can't wait to see what Cryptic does to the Jem'Hadar and the Cardassians. 360° Torpedo High Yield/Spread combo that doesn't have a shield damage penalty and has 70% if it's damage penetrate shields? Sounds about right...

My ship takes those blows with ease. That's why I armor tank as you can take those blows without being killed. In fact I can take upwards of 100k hits and not be killed, what gets me killed are those stupid 200k+ Torpedoes in Red Alerts, but I have a plan to tank those. Going to test it over the next few days.

EDIT: EDIT: Looking at the numbers a decent Cruiser should survive a 68,500 damage hit even if shield tank over armor tanked. My Cruiser has 53k hitpoints. Assuming you have hull resistance from skills that's just enough to live without resistance modules.

Reverse Shield Polarity 3 on a Sovy?
How? Isn't that a Commander Sci boff ability?
and the Sovy has a Lt Sci slot...

How did you pop "ph" and "he"? or did you mean after it came off cooldown. Actually no that wouldnt work. Torps dont fly that slowly.

Mind sharing your load out and skill implementation:

Ever since the new skill changes, Engineer traditional Tanking has been pretty much nerfed to hell and made a bit ineffective.

Don't even get me started on how much the science profession has been spread to hell in skill points allocation to have a decent build.

RSP is an engineer ability. You are thinking of Transfer Shield Strength.

This is from memory as at work on break so a little rushed, I hope it reads ok. I run at 125aux due to being a torp/mine user, the tanking setup is as follows (can give full ship layout later if you like).

Emergency Power to shields 1 & 2, Engineering Team 3 with two Doff’s which lowers the cycle rate down to global cooldown meaning I know longer need Eng team2. Aux to Sif 3. Sci Boff has Hazard Emitters 2 and due to global cooldown I just swapped Hazard Emitters 1 for Transfer shield 1. ( If you do not use the Doff’s then swap power to shields 2 for Eng team 2)

Borg Deflector for hull hitpoints and the borg console that give crits. x2 set gives hull heal bonus and an auto trigger hull heal. For most people mixing Ageius set 2 parts for defence makes sense but I use x2 Breen for projectile damage. That or perhaps the Macro shield for other people.

I treat the shields heals as a secondary line of defence or when I want to boost total hitpoints when those hvy plasma torps hit. When hull goes below 50% I start balancing shields and use shield heals to take edge off damage. Mostly I just use Hazard Emitters 2 and one other hull heal. Do not fully recall numbers but it is something like 10k+ heal from Eng team every 30sec, 17k+ from haz Emitters 45sec, 7k+ form Aux every 15seconds. Then add on armor skills and you should be round 50% to 60% resistance.

x4 Monotanium Alloy this gives you a large effective hitpoint pool and allows you to take direct hits of Hvy Plasma torps without one shot being killed. Same for the 1 shot kill STF boss weapons, on normal you do not die.

I fly Cruisers but have a plan to try sci ships out with above.
