To answer the original question.
I have seen a MkXII Member of the Honour Guard in Q's Winter Wonderland, and a friend in our fleet saw a complete MACO. Since I was in a race I didn´t ask how many missions the klingon had to run for that full set.
So basicly its possible to obtain the set, but I guess its pretty much lottery.
MACO does look more appropriate, but I think it looks hideously ugly. Also (I'm no expert on this) didn't Enterprise introduce MACO? In that they were wearing all black, with clips, walkie-talkies; the whole swat get up, the DEVS may have given MACO a newer look and used the old idea for Omega Force.
In any case, I really just want a costume piece, like the new sets, it would be great if they had some available either in the C store (just costume pieces mind you), or attainable through a means that is less dependent on having the BEST character, because I don't want to join an elite STF and be the end of a group (I'm a Science officer -medic- so I really don't think that is likely, but who knows? Space is still out of the question).
Now they go and flaunt not one person, but an entire team of officers wearing full Omega Force sets on the free to play trailer, nooooooo! What message is that sending? The whole thing screams STAR TREK ROCKS (pretty good trailer ) but when the most devoted and hardcore of a player base is taxed to the limit trying to get these, why put them on the trailer? It's not like anyone but the Devs will ever fully appreciate them. Furthermore the free to play characters are certainly never going to get them, aren't they limited in a lot of game choices?
Ugg it is just frustrating to have something so cool right in front of me, with no realistic way to get it.
Actually, many players would say stop whining and DO something, and I have; but like all the other pleas and suggestions, no Dev has ever addressed it. What do they respond to? Some obscure forum pages dealing with trite things like new emotes, or player lounges. Things that are not a huge issue. The only time you really see anyone with authority post ion the forum is when a moderator bans someone (shockingly frequent) or shuts down a thread. The whole thread: "List your top three short, mid, and long-term requests for the game" seems useless, has anyone seen anything from that come out?
Anyone Know Quiiliitiila and his Jupiter class dreadnought thread? He has garnered an impressive amount of support from other players, and kept the tread alive since season two. He managed through persistence to get the Devs to put the Jupiter and Typhoon on the engineering reports, as projects for the future. Recently however, on one of the STO podcasts, a two Devs literally laughed away the idea of making the skins playable! Laughed it away, the work and hopes of many devoted players who have shown an interest, simply because the two particular Devs thought it was ugly.
Truly that shows that the Devs listen, and indeed care little about what we the players want.
Thats not going to stop me from trying though, perhaps a Dev will read this! Any attention is some attention.
Over the last two months I've built up a full MACO XI uniform, my Dreadnought is fully quipped with MK XII borg weps, plus two MACO XI and one MACO XII ship components. I have a full MK X Omega ship set and one MK XI Omega ship component.
Nearly all that came from grinding standard STF PUGs. I just started playing Elite space STF two weeks ago (except Cure Space - I refuse to PUG that one anymore).
This isn't bragging, simply pointing out that it is possible to get end game gear in a couple of months. That's actually pretty fast, faster than WoW for example.
Your real complaint will be in less than a month when you have a bunch of green STF prototypes you can't use or trade in for anything useful. Not even EC.
I know your not bragging, Pococurante, one can get the sets through hard work and devotion. The biggest problem I see is the fact that you need all three sets to unlock the costume piece of whatever tier you are working on, it seems like a pointless addition to the massive amount of time it would take to get the sets in the first place.
Also, is there even a chance to get the parts needed for mark 12 sets in regular STFs?

No, MkXII is only available in Elite STFs.
One thing I would say in response to an earlier post you made, DPS is very useful, but a good sci ship can be far more useful with crowd-control skills and debuffs (Tyken's Rift neuters Tactical Cubes) or as a healer. I, for one, am grateful whenever there is a healer in the group because as a Tac Captain in an escort, I quickly aggro just about everything and healers keep me up pumping out damage, usually much more than they could.
I don't know about that. Normal STFs is more like "follow directions and bring a remod". Elite STFs are an exercise in masochism if you don't have a powerful loadout. For example you severely hamper the efforts of your team if you don't bring a high DPS ship to a space STF, simply because they are so DPS dependent that they almost rule out anything but escorts.
I completely disagree. STF elite space missions are more about teamwork than what ship you have.
For instance, achieving the optional objective in Infected is most easily done by destroying the four generators at once and then laying everything you have onto the transformer. Cure requires blowing up the cubes at the same time and then hailing the Kang. That is about teamwork, not DPS.
I've been teamed with four escorts that could not do bupkis and four science vessels that got the optional on infected and beat it in record time.
I'll take 5 cruisers that know how to work together over 5 escorts that just blast away, kill, kill, kill.

Or maybe you just save a Dev. I saw one with the full gear before it was even available.
