# 1 Low Level Garbage?
01-18-2012, 06:13 AM
Generally, when I am leveling an alt I'll buy all the top-O-D-line equipment with my main and ship them to my alt. But I've run into an interesting situation where that is no longer an efficient use of my EC. Since my alts can now level from LT1 to Captain 30 in a few hours, those low level items now serve little purpose. Indeed, the prices of the MkII and MkIV items on the exchange has tanked. And since I'm using a bunch of scaling weapons, I have found no need to buy anything else.

I was just curious if anyone else has run into this.

I honestly run on whites most of the time. Our Fleet keeps a full stock of MK II, IV, andI VI white gear. New characters "borrow" it and then put it back when they get better gear of their own. That way everyone gets a descent head start.

TOS Enterprise ruined/spoiled lower levels* for me.
It's only if I feel damn certain I want to use something more exotic like plasma that I bother with other arrays.

Same can be said with ground gear. Until Captain or whatever I can survive just fine with common gear bought from stores.

Yeah. It's hard to get out of that loop. Those blue phasers just look cool on everything. I love using them with my Oberth.

low level items are dirt cheap with dilithium as well. a couple of star clusters and you can buy the best gear for multiple consoles and weapons.

Couldn't agree more.

1, I think most people grind grind grind to get to max level because it's such a waste of resources to either buy, or craft, any lower level items.

2, A greedy community asking huge prices for low tier items on the AH (basically scamming new characters). Very Star Trek!

I have taken a liking to leveling slowly with good gear. The Dilithium price (as mentioned earlier) is quite reasonable for low level gear, and depending on how you plan your missions, you can get items for your level somewhat easy.

Old Method
Torpedo - Doomsday device mission
Ship Shields - Skirmish
Personal Shields - Skirmish
Personal weapon - Spin the Wheel
Additional weapon - Spin the Wheel
Blue Phasers for your energy weapons
Ship engines & Deflector - Whatever loot drops you could get until you could craft AEGIS, or do the Breen series.

New Method
Any mission that grants you a device or gear you are looking for, since rewards now scale with your toon.

I think because missions now have loot that scales, prices on the exchange are going to tank, because people can double task of getting worthwile XP, and gear they need by doing parts of the Story Arc.

agreed you level up so fast now, i barely have time to set up my bridge officers to fit my ship... not to mention look around for better items to slot into the ship.

i usually just take whatever drops and if i fall to far behind the tier i spend some EC in some npc shop

it's silly that they still ask People to pay C-Points for any Ships below Endgame.
It's over so fast, you won't get your moneys worth out of it.

Only reason to buy those for me is if i grind enough dilithium and sell that for C-Points so i run out of things to buy on the C-Store, then and only then i may buy more low level ships, but sure as hell not for $

It's realy silly, on launch of STO there were multiple threads over months that leveling was too fast.
Now comes F2P and they supercharge it even further.

Level Progression is BROKEN as far as i am concerned.
But apparently working as intended as far as Cryptic is concerned ;P

Actually I think the proper term is FUBARed.
It was "only" broken before.

Pity, I had so high hopes that Cryptic learned from itīs errors.

How fast do you think leveling is now? (I haven't leveled a toon since the new system went in place) is it one lvl per story arc mission?
