There's no account activation e-mail in my inbox nor in the SPAM folder. I googled "star trek online unable to post in forums" and I found something in the knowledge base saying that I must buy the game. Why should I buy the game when it's free-to-play?

And since I can't post anywhere else on the forum, I'll post my feedback here: I don't know how you can expect someone to pay for anything on the game while there's non-stop maintenance, reboots and so on of the game server. Since I registered for the game, which was 2 days ago, there's nothing else but maintenance and server rebooting. For these 2 days registered I have not more than 30 minutes online. Every time I login the maintenance message meets me. Like the game server is not a modern machine, but it's this... thing:

Funny, I just finished an eight hour gaming spree with no interruption.

Anyway, F2P members have reduced forum access.

You payed NOTHING for this game. So, what makes you think you have a right to complain on the forums? Your forum access is limited, it says so in the features matrix.

Of course it goes down for maintenance a lot, it just went F2P, a bunch of you people crawled out of the woodwork to join just because you don't have to pay for it. Though, compared to Global Agenda, going down for an hour or three is nothing. When GA went F2P, it was down for half a day or more at times. DC Universe Online wasn't much better. There are always a lot of issues when a game goes F2P. Each MMO tries to learn from previous ones, but you can't anticipate anything.

Besides, you're grossly exaggerating. I played most of yesterday. If it was "non-stop maintenance" and reboots, how did I do that? And, BTW, Thursday is Cryptic's regular "maintenance" day. So, expect it to go down for about 3 hours EVERY Thursday. All of their MMO games do that.

I will pay when I find a good reason for that - whether the game will be constantly online or I'll find good items in the store - it doesn't matter. But I don't know any normal person eger to give away his money just for the stupid forum access without even knowing whether he will play the game for more than a week or not or even whether he will like the game.
I found my reasons to pay tons of money for PWI and it will be the same here if I had the chance to play STO for longer than 30 minutes every day. And the lack of access to post in forums because I didn't buy the game will definitely push me away from the game and I'm sure I won't be the only one who feels that way.

I said what I had to say and found out what I wanted through other users posts. Beyond that I won't say anything more, so if you want you can continue spamming or lock the thread.

We're "spamming"? No, we're answering your ill-informed question/complaint, with one post each.

If you don't consider this game worth paying anything for, your forum access will be limited. Not a technical issue. Working as intended. Ticket closed.

Wow this basically turned into a 'bash the free-to-play noobs' thread pretty quick didn't it? Not very welcoming is it?

To respond to the original poster, the silver accounts are restricted because otherwise people would just create throwaway accounts to circumvent forum bans, and spam, etc. Once you have 20h of playtime you will be unrestricted.

This was all explained in the F2P Feature Matrix... (You did read the F2P Feature Matrix and FAQ when you signed up for a F2P account, didn't you???)

I have well over 20 hours of playing time accumulated on a single character. I can access Zone chat in game, but I still can't start a thread anywhere on the forum

Hmm, then its bugged, though it's been noted elsewhere, that sometimes it can take time to "update" that you're allowed. I would conjecture that this is basically due to the game server and account server synching on a certain schedule.
