PWE has bought Cryptic , thats means STO too , im a veteran PWE player i know/played 3 pwe games for more than 3 years .
All i can say thats the STO needs a rethink/redisign some gameplay issues including the searching or tracking quests and finding systems for quests.
A LOT ppl are asking where is WOLF 359 or Memory alpha or any other systems...I was very confused too about these and to play STO i need to access WEB to get tips . Im wonder how a player which PAYED this game can play in this way ...
I must admit that the PWE games are the best on tracking maps, quests.
1 thing is good on STO so far , the HUD to track npc on ground.
A LOT things will/ i hope PWE will change in STO including the forum skin which is so darky , so emo lol.
You cant speak in zone chat, you cant post in forums .. and many more.. This game is not completetly 100% free to play you should try PWI or FW to see what a free to play game means.
Also visit their forums to see a nice design , skin.
Im glad that Cryptic found a new buyer or devs's kids have food on their table but if Cryptic wont change some things on game i wouldnt recommend to any1 in my life to play it..And i mean at Tracking maps , forums skin/options,in game chat options...
Credits or ZEN should be charged by paying $$$ and the money for devs should come from boutique/shop or packs sale .We should have a item available to speak in zone or world chat too.
PWE , pwe players need your help.
I hope PWE will do some good changes/improvements , i guess they started already.. we will see if PWE/Wanmei China will bring some improvements to game or they will just ask a monthly fee from Cryptic and Cryptic to own the rights to modify / patch the game (like a franchise system).
Edit : Oh and btw, why i need so many useless texts on npc about how he is doing or what he is doing lol, i dont care , its useless info.
Some time ago I talked with a FW (Forsaken World) player , she was from US and she told me that she dont waste time to read all the quests texts from the boring ones to just talk with npcs.
Some quest texts in Star Trek Online are so big and boring or confusing for a non-perfect-english player leading easy to fail quests .. : Ancestral sin (vulcan)quest with the Historians is one of them.
Oh and don't underestimate never a free player. He/she can change his/her mind and spend some cash on game or even bring some1 who really will spend some good bucks in game !
Free-to-Play MMO games has a great success nowadays. One from the many reasons is due to the world crysis too and many people don't want to pay a monthly fee anymore and they prefer to buy items from cash shop when they can. A LOT game companies are making nice cash/profit from this even if the devs wont admit it in public.New EU or ASIA or US servers or game versions are expanding everyday. Many games turns out in Free-to-Play or are designed to start on this way, but if there is nothing intreseting to keep a massive players community ppl will leave the game even in the first 10 lvls.(many online games have tweaked / lowered the difficulty of the first 20 lvls - 4story, allods, PWI with a godly armor set from lvl 1 timed and so on..)
To Cryptic devs : about the tracking or searching a location , yes it is confusing even after you play a while Star Trek Online . To search X location of the Y Sector in Z sector block is a pain in STO.
Want a great example to track or search universe locations in a game ? Mass Effect 2 . The map in STO should have Systems , Galaxies and Quadrants .A group with Systems are making a Galaxy and more Galaxies are making a Quadrant .Is that so hard ??
Its not so easy to find a system of a sector in a sector block and after you take a break from playing STO you get more tired from learning all these instead of having some fun..if the game would still be with a monthly fee only i wouldnt pay a penny for this..
Yes, lets just make more of the quests go to planet X and scan five things, that would clearly be an improvement. The story just gets in the way after all! It's boring and useless!
I'm being facetious here. While this isn't a single-player game, immersion can be the thing that saves a game which is otherwise poorly-designed, and a lack of immersion can be the sniper rifle bullet right between the eyes to an otherwise good game. The strong and interesting story element to some of the story games is the only thing that makes the mission grind bearable for most of the players.
People play this game expecting a Star Trek game, if they want just boring grind, there's WoW, or Perfect World, or if they just want to socialise, there's (shudder) Second Life. But this is a Star Trek game and it's a niche it fills well. It's just too bad the programmers aren't as on the ball as the game designers and story writers, because it's got more bugs than the first release of Battlecruiser 3000 AD.
I said what I had to say and found out what I wanted through other users posts. Beyond that I won't say anything more, so if you want you can continue spamming or lock the thread.
Spamming is posting the same thing over and over or posting advertisements. I was merely providing rebuttal arguments to your incorrect statements that: 1. you should have full forum access when it states in the features matrix that you don't. 2. The game has been "constantly down." If you only got to play for 30 minutes, that's bad timing on your part or a personal problem. I've been on a lot since the game went F2P, as has my friend, who signed up for a free account on Tuesday.

In what way? This guy created a forum thread just to complain about non-issues. He made asinine and incorrect statements, we tried to correct his logic, but he won't listen. One of my buddies has been on pretty much constantly since the switch, which proves that one can most certainly play for more than 30 minutes at a time. If anything, the thread starter is the one doing the bashing.
Silver players are great. Some of my friends are coming to the game because of the switch. Others are old players coming back. In fact, I'm not renewing my sub at the end of the month, I'm going silver myself. If I'd known they were going to announce F2P 5 days after I started playing the game, I'd have waited for the switch myself.
@Chris11's multicolored shennanigan claims: I think you must be playing a different game than I am, if you can't find a given planet in a given sector block.
When I get a mission that says "Go to planet X in the Y sector", the first thing I do is hit the M key to open the sector map, and then click the 'Galaxy Map' tab. Then I go and find the sector I'm supposed to be going to, exit out, and go there.
Once I get there, I go to the system and continue on with the mission.
This isn't particularly difficult or non-functional or the like. It works, and it works well.
Also: It's systems - quadrants - galaxies, not 'systems - galaxies - quadrants'- I'm not altogether certain you meant what you typed. Regardless, the way they have things set up currently is fairly intuitive and well designed.
Just wanna say, don't come to a game thats been around for a while with dedicated fans and try to bash it within the first week. I've been with this game since Closed BETA and let me tell you, there have been changes galor in everything! Think of paying for the Game like paying for music or even Torrenting. In the Music industry, you can usually find free versions of song everywhere on the web. But if you really like an artist, you'll want them to keep producing music , so you buy their album or song to support them. Some Pirate Groups post products on the this philosophy so people can try the product in full, and if they like it , buy the product to support the developers make more good products.
Cryptic is the same after F2P. They are offering a great game to the public at no charge. You then have an option to upgrade your account to help support the game developers to keep making a great game. Yes you get more features , but that makes sense, duh.
SO, before you go on bashing people and/or the game itself, i invite you to actually try the STO expiration for at least 2 weeks. Not going nuts like a 12 years old tantrum because you didn't get everything you wanted. Patience is key, and if you don't like the game? Don't play it. its that simple.
One more thing. If you bash Cryptic, I invite you to make your own mmo and manage it as well as they have. Try , i dare you. Put your money where your mouth is.
Anyways thats my rant, I hope this tension passes and the only war is IN-GAME in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants.
Live Long and Prosper
