all im gonna say is my opinion is that STO there are some places where you can go and it looks just simply beautiful same goes with RIFT, SWTOR for example Hoth or even tatooine, crap even in EQ2 there was some places that looked awesome. Now want to say a MMO's graphics sucks take WoW, that crap is just crap.

You could argue that it has the most appealing visual direction to you, personally, but there is absolutely no way it's got the 'best graphics'. If we are talking overall precieved graphics(lighting, rendering, MORE POLYGONS[lol], etc) there is no where that STO is even in the top 3. It just lacks the engine capable(not to mention lack of an art team) to be competitive to other titles.

Don't get me wrong, STO can make a decent screen shot with everything maxed; but it most definetly has it's short comings.

Maybe It's because I CAN run other games ultra high/maxx AA/etc but I can defiently tell the difference between all the mainstream MMO's in graphical fidelity. Maybe it's your rig that's substandard; because I can gurantee you that it's not mine.
I doubt my near $3000 laptop is substandard. Whatever was the best components that are available were put into this thing haha.

But how about this: STO is one of the best MMO graphics.

3k laptop means you only have about 1200 in hardware; the rest is all laptop cost(IE: paying for mobility). 1200 is about what you would spend on your average gaming rig nowadays; it's nothing special. Also price =/= quality. Someone could easily pay 200USD for a 240m but that doesn't make it good.

I don't believe Google was down when you asked.

I have not played any other MMOs.

I did not say STO was the best, I simply asked for examples by people who know what they are talking about.

The screenshots provided above of SWTOR certainly look as visually appealing as STO.

Thank you Capnbludd for taking the effort.

I am very happy with the graphics in STO. I will be pleased when DX11 is sorted and Cryptic begin to utilise it's extra features. STO looks fine and will improve in time no doubt.

Knock it if you want, but I can't toss one of my desktops in a bag and take it to work with me to use on down time, but my m17 does that very nicely, and lets me play games in 3d. Sure, I paid a premium for it but hey, 3d mobile gaming was worth it to me.

LoTRO is utterly gorgeous, but it's more art direction than engine capability.

I haven't played ***, but have heard good things about it's music. Hard to think of a game that could top LoTRO, which has an epic, movie quality sound track.

The problem with SW:TOR is that while the artwork is very good (as you can see from the scenic shots), the game provides only low resolution textures except during the cinematics. That means that if you're looking at something more closely like during combat, the textures are quite blurry and lacking in details.

STO has less of these "wow" (the exclamation, not the game) backgrounds, but the way the graphics are rendered is much better than in SW:TOR. And with a reasonable mid-range machine (i5 2500k / GTX 560 Ti, 800 euros or less) you can max out the settings and still have smooth gameplay.

I have to say I love STOs look it's gorgeous especially when compared to it's stupid half brother Champions online....that game is an eyesore.
Age of Conan is also visually stunning...yet extremely dull as well. Low level fantasy games often are.
Lotro is another example of gorgeous yet dull. the landscapes are breathtaking and at the same time...so much brown...everywhere.

DCUO has amazing cityscapes. I loved the feel of the cities.

and Star wars the old republic has some gorgeous planets and effects as well.

Most MMOs bring beauty and design to the table. what each person likes is entirely up to them.
