# 1 Omega VS Maco
01-23-2012, 07:52 AM
Ok I got the MK XI Maco set and the MK X Omega set for space.

Maco set I never die. But I feel slow.

Omega set feels faster and seems to hit harder. Plus I think when I use that anchor I hit harder (50% less defense for that object).

Any thoeryist out there give me some hard numbers or experiences?

I have only run cure normal with both maco and omega on my defiant but have to say my hull with bleed through never went below 72% with plasma fires from plasma torps using maco and shields never collapsed either thats engaging the raptors as the spawned after 2nd tier probes went down. Omega my shields collapsed and hull hit 42% without engaging the raptors and being targeted but the cube. Also did very well with a sovvie in Elite infected didn't die until the Tact cube.

Maco is set up to be resilient
Omega more hit and run.

On a side note i put Maco on my Gal-x and she performed far worse than a Sovvie with it on.

I also found my durability in a escort was a lot better with maco than with borg/ageis/Breen and omega equip

for me Maco although the gravity anchor might come in handy on infected against the tact cube.

I run 3-piece Borg retro set with the MACO Mk XI shield. Very good set for escorts. Not sure, however, if full MACO might be better now given the recent nerf/buff cycle.

I recommend lessons in the use of the Galaxy-X then.

Full MACO works brilliantly on this ship.

But, to each their own.

3 piece Borg with MACO shield is still a very nice alternative for Escorts, I agree. Hell, for most ships.

Omega imho is meh. I know its "design purpose", but in all actuality, there is nothing the Omega set does for me that I can't do with the MACO set as well, if not better.

Reading the Specs for MACO and OMEGA...

My understanding from their premise is that---

MACO is designed for Shield and Hull tankers, for tact defense and Engineer Aid. *Increase to shield and SI strength*

The OMEGA seems more the offensive or defensive abilities for SCI. *OMEGA does not support shield and SI strength*

If there is more, feel free to correct

Nice quote on design premise.

Bottom line: In PvP (and by default, all measurable PvE sense), across all spectrum between Tac, Sci, and Eng (Klingon excluded, because your set is just awesome regardless, both ground and space)... MACO means greater survivability, regardless of what ship you fly.

Omega doesn't grant any feasibly noticeable advantage in survivability in any fashion ("evasive" or "tanking") over the MACO, whereas MACO does indeed showcase a VASTLY superior survivability rating.

Omega offers nothing in the form of offensive strength or ingenuity, particularly over that of the MACO set.

Granted, MACO's Graviton Beam leaves a bit to be desired to most ships, I've found it a rather nice 1-2 punch with the Lance.

But if you're looking for offensive benefits in a shield or deflector, you're smoking something that I want.

Awesome summary. I am in the market for a higher set now.
With all the changes, does this still hold true?
Looks for a full set, don't really like mixing it up.

After the changes, on a Fleet Escort, you could probably manage well in either the MACO or Omega sets respectively.

At this point, it is preference.

General consensus I keep hearing buzz around is Omega for Escorts, MACO for cruisers, and Sci can take what in bloody hell they want.

Do note, several of these posts are pre Maco shield correction.
