# 1 The Dreadnaught's Niche
01-25-2012, 06:05 PM
Something I've been noticing lately is the continually ever more extensive use of the Dreadnaught for the STFs, and seeing it in a way that most people dismiss without a thought. Namely, as an all-cannon armed gunship.

Surprisingly, this seems to work extremely effectively, given the relatively fixed paths and positions that it needs to assault in the STF's. However, it's not yet perfect for the job.

Would it be possible for Cryptic to switch the Lt. Science and the Ensign tactical slots for the ship? This allows it to make maximum use of it's cannon's (fore and rear) and would not significantly overpower it, while allowing it to have a rather... unique, playstyle.

Also, when are you guys going to let Cap'n Logan import the Monarch skin onto it? Just asking.

Single cannons and turrets are beast on a Galaxy-X, whether PvP or PvE.

Dual Cannons in PvE is more than acceptable. PvP it's not so wise.

That's the idea. For assaulting a fixed position, it may well be the single best ship in the game if we can get it a second lt. tac slot. It's not like it gets any use out of a lt. sci slot, anyway.

Sorry, but that's bull****.

Tractor + Sci Team = two of the most essential skills for a Galaxy-X. Both are Sci.

Second LT Tac would make me OP. If you've seen some of my PvP performances (and there are those stronger than I), you'd realize how much my opponents would come crying on the forums and Cryptic would come back with a Nerf 120mm Howitzer.

The problem is not the ship. Even in competitive PvP, the ship performs admirably.

The problem is only 1% of the population using it actually know how to.

Well... Maybe besides the Guramba or the Kar'Fi... You silly Feds...

I suspect the reason they did not want to tact it up though is that if they do that it makes the Excelsior less appealing as an option.

If the right way to use it doesn't include dual heavies and its special ability is that it can equip dual heavies, it's borked.

I think we'll see it become more useful when they add the ability to use the saucer sep console, which I've seen discussed.

A dreadnuaght with saucer sep will work a lot better and be more in line with the Garamba's ability to shift between escort and cruiser modes.

End of the day it depends on play style, have flown my Gal X with beam arrays and torps, normal cruiser loadout and she does well, use the right bridge officer combo and spec well and she will do you proud, if I want spike DPS I will fly the escort, I think a lot of people just don't get or don't have the patience to get used to a Gal X.

She is a big ship and large ships hang back and pound the target, its the Escort's that mix it close up.

I may fly a Sovy more but I do like taking out the Gal X for fun and enjoy her.

Cheers

Work a lot better...? You must be joking.

It'd be terrible.

Saucer is automated. My lance is on the saucer.

This means that my single most powerful weapon is being controlled by an AI.

VERY VERY BAD.

Please people... you included...

STOP TRYING TO COMPARE THE GALAXY-X TO A ******N ESCORT!!!

You're comparing an Iowa Class WWII Battleship with 16" cannons to a kayak.

Hell, while you're at it, why not add broadside lances on their own cooldown timers so I can lance everything without even needing to look at my screen while I PvP?

While we're on the subject, let's bump up my turn rate to about 40. There's no reason those other ships should turn better than me, amirite?

Since we're on the subject of maneuverability, this ship has 3 engines! Let's make it 33.3% faster than EVERY other ship in the game! That'd make sense, right?!

Let's separate the saucer section, even though the whole point of SPINAL LANCE is that it is built into the very spine of the entire ship to absorb its recoil. That definitely wouldn't breach any physics rules!

I'm sorry. I don't agree with any of this, nor do I agree with you.

I use this ship just fine. I devastate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING stupid enough to look at me sideways. There's no reason you can't too.

Any of this "balancing" would make me so ridiculously OP that I would be bored to tears and never touch this game at all, as it would present absolutely no challenge or replay factor, even in PvP against the game's best.

# 10 ship class

It is a Dreadnaught.

A Dreadnaught is a class of all Large Caliber Gun BATTLESHIP .

It is then not suprising to find that said ship does not turn well , it is not ment to.

It Is A Battleship , a Capital Class Warship , whos sole Purpose is to enter into battle with other Warships and dish out Massive Levels of Distruction all the wile surviving everything the enemy throws at it.

That is the niche of a Dreadnaught, to be the Master of Any field of Battle, Against All Enemies who oppose it.
