Sure why not just make it 4/1/4 and have the ships identical in every way except skin?

"The pinnacle of Federation starship design, the Odyssey Star Cruiser will carry the Federation into a new generation of exploration.

In honor of this monumental technological achievement, Starfleet Command has authorized the construction of a new flagship. This vessel, the U.S.S. Enterprise-F, will embolden its crew to embrace the principles of exploration and cooperation that are the hallmarks of the Federation. In the Odyssey class, crews will explore strange new worlds, seek out new lifeforms and new civilizations and boldly go where no ship has gone before."

"Not content to rest on their laurels, the KDF engineering teams at the Ty'Gokor Fleet Yards have been hard at work advancing Klingon ship design into the 25th century. When Chancellor J'mpok demanded a new, more powerful flagship to lead the Empire, they were ready with the Bortas, a ship that will bring swift vengeance to enemies of the Empire.

The Bortas Battle Cruiser is the largest, most powerful battle cruiser in the Klingon arsenal. Its massive hull affords it incredible resilience in battle, but it sacrifices turn rate for that size. The Bortas is designed to take on any foe no matter how powerful, and because of that is designed with versatility in mind. It features Universal Ensign and Lieutenant Commander Bridge Officer Stations that can be operated by any Bridge Officer class."

Sounds like a difference in design philosophy to me.

Odyssey healbots of course, I see no reason picking a cruiser over an escort for dps.

That's what makes us angry, because in wartime we launch a pacifist starship...we are definitely jerks!

Ah, but I don't understand why the Bortas has four tac consoles...probably it's a very big escort!

I know it wouldn't be the most popular change, but you could change the Shield Boosting consoles from Eng to Science. That way they'd match up a little more with the new skill trees.

Eng Consoles are good for ships without many Eng abilities because they boost basic stats of the ship, such as increasing shields, providing hull resists, improving power transfer, better turn rate, etc.

Tac Consoles are good for ships without many Tac abilities because they boost damage on the ship by a healthy amount regardless of BO layout - and damage is king in this game.

Sci Consoles are only good for ships with a bunch of high level Sci abilities, because they only boost science skills, and have no real effect on anything else.

One of these is not like the others...

The way to fix this is to make Sci consoles useful (as something other than dump slots for universal consoles) on non-Sci ships. This means providing a significant boost to the ship even if the ship only has 2 Sci BO abilities that are seldom used and don't need boosting. Also, because you already have console types that boost survivability and damage (Eng and Tac respectively), Sci consoles would either need to do both of these things, or something else entirely - but that something else (whatever it is) would need to be useful in both PvP and PvE.

As a Klingon ... I would take either proudly into combat.

This man speaks the truth.

So the Odyssey gets about 750 more shields and the Bortas gets 1500 more hull. Seems to me that the Bortas will be able to tank almost as well as the Odyssey while also significantly out-damaging it.

I like this.
