Thanks SO MUCH for all your support, and we'll see you in-game!
tHe oddy is so lucky!!!!! 3 science consoles. you people dont know what you have. *hint it stacks
this will be the 1 thing that makes it better then a star cruiser. much higher shield potential, thanks to it's shield modifier, with the now on tribble filed generator that now stacks...
unfortunately this mean escorts just got harder to kill, especially the MVAM variety
Short answer, if the answer to any of your questions would make the ship more useful in any way, the answer is no. Cryptic seems quite determined to ensure that their new, versatile Federation wartime flagship cruiser is useful to as narrow a subset of the STO population as possible. Equally, they seem quite determined to avoid actually discussing the matter.
or they were ordered from higher up to make the ships this way?
Cryptic doesn't make all the decisions, just saying

I can't imagine that's intentional. The shield caps would become outrageous. MACO 2.0.
I went and took a look on Tribble to see the Odyssey parked there.
Then I used demorecord, and had my camera flit around and...
Well...
If the ESD model it at all on scale with the Galaxy and Excelsior models in there... I'm going to have to admit that 6 degree per second turn rate may actually be okay. Geko described it as huge, but when I heard that I was thinking Jupiter Dreadnought huge, or Vo'Quv huge.
Not even close. o.O
I guess we'll know the scale for sure once it's actually represented at its playable scale... but right now, I'm gaping a little. I mean, when you look at it from the top, the Excelsior isn't even half as long as the Odyssey's warp nacelle. The Galaxy model actually fits inside the saucer. Heck, if the Excelsior wasn't so tall, it might fit in the Odyssey's main shuttlebay!
So, I might have put my foot in my mouth and given a Dev a hard time for something I just couldn't comprehend. >_>;
I agree with 'enormous'. I wandered into the shipyard and it took me a second to realize what I was looking at. A galaxy class is huddled underneath the Odyssey in the shipyards. The only way that poor Odyssey is getting out of the docks is with quantum torpedoes, there's no way in Grethor that she's getting out the normal doors.
Weird thing though - I patched up to the current tribble and Odyssey is still running around with a universal ensign slot. With they would either get it changed and stop getting my hopes up or admit it was staying as is.
I just can't decide if my tac loadout will be beam overload 1, fire at will 2, torp spread 3, tac team 1, attack beta, or swap spread 2 and beam 3... Either way, Odyssey is my new Foundry/solo play ship just for the shiny factor. I'll still use my Defiant/Dreadnought for stf's and pvp, though...

I wouldn't use the ESD models as an accurate comparison for scale. I'm pretty sure that they use a hefty amount of forced perspective to make the ESD interior seem more massive than it is. Models in the back are intentionally scaled down to make them look further away.
If you're looking for a more accurate size comparison, this is most likely pretty close:
MacReynolds, my engineer, is definitely switching to an Odyssey-class tomorrow. Thezian, my science guy, is going to pick one up, but I don't know if he's going to make that jump when he hits VA. Ts'anz, my tactical officer, is going to keep her purple butt parked in the center seat of the Sao Paulo-class U.S.S. Tamerlane, NCC-93510. (Bonus geek-point if you know the reference in her name/registry.)
My one and only KDF character, Chakocei, is in the same boat as Thezian, insofar as the BortaS goes. I've been having fun having her fly birds-of-prey, and I find that the fact that most of the bridge officer slots are universal to make it quite fun to spec out. So she's going to get one, but it may end up being a drydock queen.
One would think that both these ships with all the advanced tech they have, that they would have advanced propulsion systems to turn them despite their massive sizes...
These ships are so fat that its' a miracle they turn at all.
Seriously the Od, is even more obese than an already obese Galaxy... If it were a fat man it couldn't even run fast to catch cake.
So I was secretly hoping that CaptainGeko would reverse the decision about the Universal Ensign BO slot at the last minute. So the time cam e and I started the Odessey shakedown cruise, and low and behold I look at the BO layout and see this:
My hopes are suddenly raised. Could it be that we get both a universal ensign slot AND a science ensign slot? That must be to good to be true, but then again, having six stations would require any silver player to buy an additional BO slot to take advantage of it. Brilliant!
I finish up the mission and get my Odyssey box and notice a wall of text in the description. So I pull up the Info and at the end is this:
At this point I'm ecstatic and mentally prepping a "Thank you so much for listening" post. I quickly unpack my new ship rush over to the Ship Selection and get half way through re-assigning my Boffs and notice, oh wait, it didn't change. It's still missing the universal Ensign slot. They didn't listen. I put my stuff back on my 2-year-old Sovereign, decide I don't really feel like going to look for Q and log off.
