Right now I'm playing an escort class ship and have thought about limiting/expanding my duty officers to ship crew size and limiting doffs just to engineering and tactical with some transient civs. Has anyone else done this craziness and how did it work out for you.

Has anyone been crazy enough to make out a watch schedule for the different departments and assign doffs to them? I didn't go down to actual hours, just who would be on what watch i.e. Watch 1, 2 or 3.

Also if you have done the watch thing, did you assign any science crew to watches? Does Astrometrics needs to be a 24 hour thing on a starship or just 8 hours on, 16 hours off.

Anyway some rpg craziness for other people to shake their heads at.

It's not a bad idea. Eventually as time passes I will have duplicate or even triplicate personnel for ship and ground station DOFFs.

Just make sure to remember the names of who is doing which shift, have to keep track of them individually since there is no 'time on duty' counter.

If you're hardcore enough, use the character's personal log to record shift changes and ship maintenance.
