Good.
I hope its not a mistake.
This consul was one of the single worst adds too the game since launch.

There is a reason everyone has one... because it was way too good. +35 vs +35% is the way it should have always been. Even at that its still likely too good.

It was a lazy way to try to balance things too begin with. I hope this goes live. It will still likely be better then the alternatives for the slot... but it won't be so good that only morons wouldn't have one.

While nerfing the console and making it stack could have been a viable way to deal with the "must have" status of the Field Generator, this is a bad idea now that it is a sci console. Sci ships already have the highest shield capactiy. Giving them the highest additional buff (since they have the highest number of sci console slots) is not a particularly bright idea (unless they intend to keep the consoles nerfed into oblivion).

I guess the main problem is that the developers have no idea how this game actually works and that shield tanking is vastly superior to hull tanking (and that all shield values essentially have to be multiplied by 4 to account for near perfect redistribution via tactical team).

Like the 90% instead of 10% thing. That was not an understandable mistake. Learning the difference between multiplying by .1 or .9 or dividing or whatever arithmetic operation is the first thing you do when you start working with shield resists. It's the first thing everyone learns who attempts to read combat logs or calculate effective shield capacity. Not learning this as a developer who fiddles with it is unforgiveable.

And even worse is that nobody at Cryptic bothered to test whether the new code had actually produced the desired results. If one implements a new feature, why wouldn't one test whether it actually worked as intended?

I really didnt realize it was broken? How did i miss it? All this time it was broke and I didnt know it. I feel so stupid, lol

Cryptic, leave good enough alone and give us some new pvp maps, please.

Any science captain who chooses to boost his capacity instead of his actual sci skills, deserves to be slapped around a bit. I can take the base shields plus skills only if it means I can run 4, +26 particle generator consoles
