Not for me it doesn't.. If I mute the game under the windows mixer it stops.

I just wanted to let you know that we have heard you. Unfortunately, the noise you are hearing does not appear for everyone who logs in to DS9 and has not yet been encountered by QA. That means it's going to take time to track down and fix. I have documented your issue and sent it to our audio guys to see if they have any insight.

I'm sorry you're having this problem that obviously diminishes your enjoyment of the game.

I believe the issue only affects those with 7.1 surround sound head sets, mind you the first patch on February 2, 2012 caused this, and the February 3, 2012 did not fix it.

Thanks for the response though, guess I've got a crummy experience with DS9 then.

This seems to be right. I just tested it with my headset (a Logitech G35) and the noise started as soon as I set foot on DS9. I've never heard it through any other sound output though

Not just headsets, I'm afraid.

But, and I'm going to go out on a limb here, I think it has to do with 7.1 sound virtualisation. I posit this because I use 7.1 virtualisation to output my computer's sound to my receiver in DTS format. Granted, DTS is 5.1, but the effect is more or less the same. I imagine you guys with the bi-plane buzzing about by your eardrums have virtualisation as well because, headsets don't have 8 distinct speakers, as far as I know.

The sound chip that my soundcard is based on is is made by C-Media, using the CMI8770 codec. The virtualisation is done by an engine called Xear3D EAX. Maybe you guys who are experiencing this issue have a similar chip and codec.

Hope this detailed info helps QA track this horrible new bug down.

Thank you JTFrost! One of the posters said it happened 2 patches ago and that sounds about right. Has anyone with the g35 used their switch on the side of the headset to turn off the surround sound? I haven't yet as I completely forgot it was there. In theory this shut of the virtullization of 7.1.

Tried it, and setting it to 2.1 doesn't do a thing, just gives you music quality beeps

It was worth a shot anyways. I am going out for the day but I will try it as well when I get home later. Has anyone tried the old driver sets before they went to the "combined" driver or gaming software where all Logitech gaming devices are now controlled under one panel?
