# 1 C-Store Gifting and Wishlists
02-03-2012, 04:14 PM
They need to add a "Gift" button next to the "Buy" button in the c-store allowing us to buy gifts for others.

All it would have to do, is come up with a little prompt with a field for the person’s name, same as when you send them mail or invite them to your bridge, and that person would get a nice little e-mail saying that “So and so had bought the such and such on the C-Store”, and where they could redeem it from.

This would help bring more money into the game to keep it running, and would be helpful to many players who might not be able to afford their own C-Points, or simply might not buy them anyway.

This would also open up the possibility of players being able to make their own wish lists on the C-Store. Fleets could help out their members by getting them better ships they would not otherwise be able to get. They could have it so you could donate C-Points to items of one your friend’s or fleet member’s wishlists, or even buy the item for the person.

Say “Timmy” wants a new Multi-Vector Advanced Escort. But for whatever reason he can not afford the 2,000c. Maybe he's 13 and has no allowance, maybe he blew all his C-Points on the Tactical Escort Retrofit or simply is to cheap to spend the $25 himself at 7-11 for a PWE game card.

But if he puts it on his wish list then maybe some of his buddies in his fleet with a few extra C-Points laying around can pitch in and buy it for him, or maybe just one person who likes to throw around money might up and buy the thing outright for him.

People will buy things for people’s birthday, fleets might do Secret Santas with C-Store items, or a group might buy some fleet member a new ship in hopes that they might be a more valuable member to fleet. Some might even buy random stuff for strangers because they have 240c burning a hole in their pocket, and that random level 1 character over there looks like they are in need of a FED Starter Pack.

Overall, it will give reasons for people to spend more money on C-Points, so the game can continue to run and operate and release new updates, but it also will let the players help out their in game friends and fleet members.

The problem is... Cryptics current income model is based on the assumption that C-Points (and the associated Dilithium) cannot be transfered between accounts, and your proposal assumes that this will happen, (which would really open up the gates to potential Gold Farming...)

About the closest thing you can do is that you can purchase a 'virtual' Cryptic Point Card to someone so that they can make their own C-Store Purchases.

Actually, from my understanding of what ChibiQ is proposing, C-Points never get transferred between players.

Pretty much it'd go like this:
Person A would like Item 1 from the C-Store, but cannot afford it. So they put it on their wishlist.
Person B is a friend of Person A and notices the wishlist entry.
Person B purchases Item 1 as a gift for Person A.
Person A receives Item 1 as if they themselves had purchased it.

At no point were C-Points transferred between players. Think of it as a form of "Buying via Proxy".

And the whole "Donating towards an item" process is pretty much the same, the C-Points would go towards a pool to purchase the item, but at no time does the C-Points actually get transferred between players. My guess is that if the item were to be removed from the wishlist before the amount was met, the C-Points would be "refunded" back to the original donator.

The donate system would be a challenge to set up, it is a complex request after all, but the gifting system should be easy in comparison. (Unless the C-Store backend is just programmed in such a way that it is impossible to do.)

That's it exactly. If I buy you a ship for 800c, you never never see the 800c.

All you get is an email saying I gifted you a ship and you can go pick up the ship at the proper Requisitions NPC.

It would be no different then me going to 7-11 buyng a $10 PWE card, scratching the back and mailing you the code ingame, just alot simpler and convenient.

I see now you can gift c-points directly from the STO site, but this is not an option for people who do not have or dislike using credit cards online.

-EDIT- Again For spelling and what not *sigh*

Well... 'technically', you're not transferring C-Points, but the end results are still the same... You're purchasing a 'Bound' item for C-Points and transferring it to someone else, which has exactly the same effect as transferring C-Points...

Plus, it still opens up a big 'Exploit' door for Gold Farmers to use... Grind for Dilithium, convert it into 'Promotional' C-Points, then offer to transfer C-Point items for $$$... As it is right now, its not possible to grind for a 'Virtual' C-Point Card...

Is this not basicly what PWE is doing right now?

C-points are still fundamentaly limited in quanity by how many people are buying, eather directly or through their gold membership fee. It's not like EC where they are limited basicly to how muc hours a day you are will to spend farming them.

Dilithium Farming is also limited by the fact that you can only refine so much of it per day.

I'd like to see some one do the math on what it would take a large farming operation in time and manpower to earn enough c-points to provide a gold farming service at a price competative to PWE's zen exchange that every player has access to now.

Thats true... but PWE, being the owner of STO is suppose to make money from the game... The issue is with unauthorized organizations making money off of the game, (and taking sales away from PWE...)

I've seen reports of Chinese prison labor being used for Gold Farming operations... So you can guess that labor costs must be pretty low...
