my science uses an Odyssey Class and just did an stf last night in her all objectives were obtained. Dropping Buffs and debufs through out the mission.

where the rest of the team In Odysseys? Or did your teammates bring ships that are able to do the STF's & have to pull your weight?

I've been in too many Elite STF's the last couple of days with 2 or more Odysseys in them, & have not gotten an optional with more than 1 of them on my teams.

I saw a lot of PvP last night with people flying this ship. Do Cruisers captains even try to bother to heal anymore or do they just try to poorly imitate escorts? FAW and DEM is played...so played. I would like to see some real Cruisers that can tank or throw some shields and hull heals on somebody (or themselves) for once. If you want DPS go sit in an escort.

/end rant

The blame for this rests squarely on the shoulders of the T5 Excelsior.

When you have 3 classes there's always going to need to be a best at each class. The Excelsior is probably the best tactical cruiser but it's not the best engineering or science cruiser. Tac captains who want to fly a cruiser are probably going to pick the Excelsior. Sci captains who want to fly a cruiser are probably going to pick the starcruiser, etc.

The Odyssey can't be an 'I win' ship simply because each person wants it to be. Ships need variety. Otherwise there'd be no reason for anyone to choose other ships.

DPS has been king on this game ever since I started. The jump in difficulty from regular missions to STFs doesn't give people any incentive until the STFs to do anything beyond mash spacebar, and that's what most people do.

But you can't roll the Odyssey that way. It's built for tanking. Flying it as a DPS machine will inevitably not yield good results.

In pve dps has never really mattered in this game at all. You could fly in balanced mode and still defeat your enemies without difficulty with any class in any ship type. The problem is that when you get to the end game stfs everything changes. There only dps matters. It's a poor design that makes engineers and science somewhat meaningless. The stfs need to be changed to incorporate the standard damage, tank, healer model so that every possible type has a purpose when doing them.

I don't disagree but from what I've seen there is little variety among these players who are flying Odyssey's at the moment. In PvP their DPS gets mediocre at best and they blow up a lot because many can't or won't cross heal or support one another. In my honest opinion, good Cruiser captains are a very rare thing.

For those few Cruiser pilots that are left which can still support their teammates with heals while also keeping themselves alive, bravo to you.

My recent PvP video features me (Dreadnought)... a Jem'Hadar ship... and 3 Odysseys.

It was lol.

Fun Times

That's more or less all that I had to see to identify the Odyssey as a viable PvP ship in most roles.

I'm not going to disagree with what you're saying. I was merely pointing out that the "DPS in a cruiser" thing that was being ranted about comes from the T5 Excelsior. That's all.

So as an extension, you are seeing a lot of players who are used to playing DPS in a Cruiser, flying the new cruiser and it's not built to be DPS in a Cruiser. Hence the rant.
