Ya said it all. You want to point your nose at a cube or a gateway, park, and unload without getting oneshotted. You want a PvE I win button.

Reality is this ship turns too slow to really use duals. Singles will work fine and because they have a higher rate of fire offer more chances to crit in a given salvo.

The build I was thinking about would be a shield stripper with four tetryon turrets aft, a single tetryon cannon with a tetryon DBB front and two quantums for my final punch. Work your universal stations right and you should be able to get CRF1, FAW1 and THY to go off all at the same time. You should be able to double up on more than one of those three so you can roll them more often. Hide a copy of DEM on there somewhere and you should not need dual heavies with a build like that.

Am I alone in considering this a joke thread?

I've seen a thread where someone demanded a Federation battleship with the ability to tank at least 6 Klingon carriers with their pets simultaneously...in PvP...and was serious about it.
So this needn't be a joke thread.

I admit, all I did was read the title and instantly agreed with you.

REALLY sad part is that I fly a Dreadnought, and agree with you still...

It reeks of Trollololol, but with the general intelligence level rapidly plummeting, I would also not be surprised if it was a serious thread.

Which, if it is a serious thread? If you want DHCs and a cruiser, get a Galaxy dreadnought and quit crying that the Odyssey isn't the faceroll-to-win ship you want it to be. Or go play a Klingon.

For those of you still trying to be an escort... fork out 50 USD for the entire set, mount single cannon or DBB weapons on fore + turrets in aft, split off the Chevron and the Aquarius escort, then act as though you're an tanky MVAE. You're still pretty **** in PVP, but at the very least you can turn before a klink fries you.

This loadout is best recommended for tac caps only...

Alternatively, do all that but build a beam boat that spams FAW and APB for your friends to dps. That way you have 10 beams of burn going.

seems like you dont own a oddy first off you cant split both chevron and escort at the same time. second you only have a total of 8 weapon slots not 10.

On a slow turning chunk of floating city is beyond me.....even for the klingons version....this thing is a wee much to keep a target in yer front sights laddy.

If Star Cruisers and Battle Cruisers were Naval Ships, then the Galaxy X Dreadnought would be basically the equivalent to the HMS Vanguard which carried 8 fifteen inch (38 cm) Guns on it and weighed 45,200 tons. The Odyssey on the other hand, would be the equivalent to the Japanese Batttleship Yamato which weighed in at 72,809 tons when fully loaded, which is heavier than the HMS Queen Elizabeth (an Aircraft Carrier). Keep in mind however, that in the real world naval battleships and dreadnoughts are kind of obsolete these days.

It should be noted that terms Star Cruiser, and Battle Cruiser are both kind of synonymous with the sense of any type of Cruiser that has been built specifically for the purpose of Interstellar Travel (Star Cruiser) as well as which has been armed for the purpose of defending itself in an armed conflict (Battle Cruiser).

To that end, pretty much all of the Heavy Cruisers of the Federation would be capable of being classified as both Battle and Star Cruisers depending on the context. Heck the Original Enterprise from the Original Series (as well as it's refit model) despite not being what is technically a Heavy Cruiser, has been classified as both a Star Cruiser (Federation) and a Battle Cruiser (Klingons). So the question really is one of perspective.

Also I would remind you that although the Odyssey cannot equip Dual Cannons and up, it can technically equip Single Barreled Cannons. So there is at least that.

I could actually see the argument in favor of Dual Cannons / Dual Heavy Cannons or heck even Quad Cannons having some merit if the Odyssey were in perpetual Chevron Separation Mode. But as it is that is not the case, thus the argument is kind of pointless.

I have to admit, even if they did allow cannons on the Oddy, parking in front of your target just makes you easier to hit. Yes escorts pop quickly but they're not supposed to be tanks. The idea of the escort (in this game) is hit and run, and trying to keep out of firing range of your enemies. With the right build you can make them a little more robust as survival goes.

What are you going to when you can't turn fast enough to keep your enemy in your firing arc?

Beams and torps will always be the best choice for large, cumbersome ships like the Oddy.
