Since the Gorn and Orion have multiple ships in KDF, I see no reaon the Caitain can't have multiple ships with sci/esc and sci/carr hybrid offers.

Personally, I'd prefer to see such vessels attributed to species with actual importance to Star Trek lore like the Tellarites or Andorians rather than just being an excuse for a stupid cat carrier pun, but whatever. Just another thing for me to blow up, I guess.

This.

We've been waiting a while now for an Andorian Starship (presumably an Escort), and Tellarite ships would make excellent Cruisers.

Why does it seem like Caitians are getting more consideration at this point over two far more prominent species? It's been almost a year since we were promised that Andorian ship, if I do recall.

Nothing against Caitians or their (completely non-existant/never described in lore) ships, but I think certain priorities need to be straightened out.

The Andorian ship is planned for the much more immediate future from the sounds of it but it also seems like he'd like players to start thinking about species who have never had a ship onscreen and mechanics for ships that have never been seen onscreen that would make sense to flesh out the minor species.

I'll add, the Voltron thing aside, the reverse MVAM just works for me as an interesting mechanic and might fill some of the urge for fighters or a Galactica style fleet while keeping carriers a KDF feature.

So you're split into five ships by default and can merge to form a mega ship with the turnrate of a beached whale. That, to me, seems like something inbetween the Garamba's two modes and MVAM, albeit with the merged form being more overtly a defensive stance.

I have no problem with the carrier since it really isn't a carrier. But to think that the Federation, in a period of war on all fronts, would never develop a carrier is just asinine. But even then, it's not a real carrier. You are talking one ship deploying at a time. It's more of a cruiser with a combat pet than a carrier.

I like the idea of focusing on the other races of Star Trek. It requires fewer run-ins with CBS and would allow us to explore these other races that are not mentioned that often.

Count me in, i hate it.
I am 1000% against it!

Seriously if the devs have no interest in doing a Star Trek game, they should look for another francise and make a game with that.

It has been said a thousand times. Star Trek isn't about fighter ships zipping around and doing the combat, while the Big ships stay in the background or being attacked by them.
I see a fundamental missunderstanding by the people running this game what Starships in Star Trek are about.
Simple said, Star Trek ships function much more like 18 or 19th century Ships, Frigates or Ships of the line rather than WWII Carriers. Everyone who does not understand this simple thing has missed something important.

I cannot understand how a game developer can seriously consider introducing carriers for the Federation, or the KDF.

From a player point of view flying a Carrier must be the most boring ship to fly in this game. Letting small easy to kill NPCs do the work while your cannot do much than just sit there and watch them getting killed. Great, how boring is that?

The devs rather should work on adding new stuff, or finally rework ships in general, so they are finally more true to the shows and less MMORGP like.
No one needs a stone, scissor, paper mechanic it's just a lame excuse for balancing.
Instead they should make ships more individual and give the player the chance to configure their ships by themselves.

I was seriously hoping that this silly Federation Carrier issue would be finally over for now.

Live long and prosper.

Heck, if one can't understand the distinctions between various space universe mechanics, and understand when they should be hybridized and when they ought to be left separate...

....Then one has no business in games development from a sci-fi perspective.
