# 1 Me and pugging
02-07-2012, 08:47 AM
First off, this is not a thread proclaiming my awesomeness at STO or anything, just what i have encountered whilst pugging since i have come back to the game.

95% of Games i play there is next to no real opposition, i am not totally sure why but they don't.

Arena matches are the worst, at the start Feds often have a little ball going as per standard doctrine but soon get sent to disarray on the first sign of combat and often get splatted very quickly then the KDF followthrough and end up spawn camping.

Capture and hold games are a little different, Feds often put up more of a fight here not because they kill any KDF ships, but because they go solely for objectives. KDF on the other hand often get a taste of bloodlust that narrows their vision and just keep wanting to blast stuff rather than capture things.
Often in such a game you have to prod the KDF side to notice that they're losing points before they'll go and capture something.

4% of the matches are games (normally in arena) that go on for quite some time and are hard fought, not against premades but just both sies seem pretty evenly matched. Often this is due to neither side having enough dps or not focusing enough. Anyway intestering enough (and use up tons of batteries)

1% Versus a Fed proper premade, normally insta gibbed (much like what a KDF pug does to a fed pug)

I just can't get my head around why the skill difference is so cast between Feds and KDF sometimes.

Anyway, i was eating some sandwiches and though i'd write something.

Feds pugs are atrocious.

I spend the entire match chasing after Escorts, throwing out literally every heal I get (getting nothing in return), only to out DPS and out heal everyone on the map... then get told 'nice fail, healer' when we inevitably lose.

Its obviously the healers fault that they couldnt do enough damage.

Gawd, I know. I've never been called out for bad healing, but I've spent so many fed pugs frantically stressed out because the first thing everyone did was full impulse in opposite directions and scatter as far apart as possible.

Or we're leading a stately procession to the middle, and suddenly I see an escort screaming off at 90 degrees. Of course klingons go after him, it's a free point. :/

Klingons newbs probably have a huge advantage because the first tactic is to invisibly full impulse directly to the imposing team.

PvE. Feds have something to do beyond PvP. And most of Feds in PUGs are PvErs that visit Arena/C&H for dilithium or to see what PvP is about. But do not worry. It's changing. Klink PUGs starting to suck as much as Feds ones. Not that I'm the best player ever (I doubt I'm medicore one, but I try), but today in most Areans we (Feds - I do not have Klink toon) instagibbed Klinks in most matches (15:0 sometimes), lost only few and only two were 15:14 (we once lost, once won). In several both Klinks and Feds were leaving in middle of match sometimes making it 2 vs 5.

And I'm only PUGging, never saw anyone from some of more known PvP fleets in either teams. The more Klinks are there, the more Klink PUGs start to look like Fed ones.

This should even out soon based on the deterioration of Qo'nos zone chat. Once the people I saw last night start pugging PvP both sides will be equally terrible.

True enough and many do not PvP at all.
In my opinion the KDF has a worse time of it, as it seems that we are held back from being really capable at PvP in vessel design all to often to allow them a "chance" at competeing.
It is tiresome and one reason why I have pushed for a full faction PvE storyline for the KDF fans to enjoy as well. I mean if we can't be allowed to be good at PvP in the design of our vessels and we have little to no PvE to keep us busy, what do we have?

To clarify the vessel design statement, look to the little handicaps that the KDF has endured over time to allow the feds a chance to compete. Cloaking detection is rampant and yet still considered an "I win", the BortaS took two hits from the nerf bat over the Odysses becuase of perceptions it would be OP before it was even tested, The VoQ and Kar'fi had suffered many nerfs due to the unfairness of its use in PvP, the Raptor is a pale shadow of the Defiant. Even the battle Cruisers which come close to being a good representation of what a KDF vessel of war would be, are copies of fed vessels when looked upon closely. I love the KDF but we have not been allowed to actually be the conquest driven and dangerous race we are described in the genre.

Federation Pugs are awful creatures. Dragging their butts on the carpet awful. The sort of awful that makes you think that now that its free to play perhaps your cats NOT on her lap top downloading porn, but actually trying out that sweet new cruiser. She's still mad that I cancelled her credit cards. Stupid cat.

Get yourself even two federation players teamed up in a Pug and its a different sort of dance entirely.

It is true though that in capture and hold a few klingons can lure every fed into battles no where near any objectives. And its also true I've seen that go the other way also.

But you're a klingon and I'll assume you rolled one as soon as you could after launch. How many matches do you think you played in that first year? I calculated mine out based on how much EC I accumulated. The number is "a lot". Just so much practice for klingons as there was nothing else to do.

By the way, what sort of sandwiches? And are there more?

I never actuall saw much flaws in KDF ship design. I wont say that you are wrong cause I never played on KDF side (your ships beside D7/K'T'Inga are ugly) but from quick glances I never saw that much difference between KDF and UFP ships. Ok, Klingon ships are not what they should be (agressor ships) but then UFP ships are neither (super high-tech defenders).
