Did you people learn absolutely nothing from the gift box backlash?
they probably learned that a very small number of people on the forums either liking or hating it did not offset the huge amount of money they made from it.
these boxes are not going away. they have made PW a huge amount of money and they have been used in champions for some time. they will be here to stay as well, because no matter what people do or say on the forums, people will buy them.
Sigh, here we go again, i only recently started playing again after that fiasco that was the winter 'event' , and now there pulling the same crap again..guess i should have expected this seeing as how this seems to be the way PW operates.
And let me guess, the stats on the ship will probably be better than any comparable ship currently ingame thus giving an advantage to those that are either really lucky or really rich...... Well, looks like i will be taking annother break and this time i may well not bother coming back at all.
As someone who has spent money on keys for TF2's crates after spending no money in TF2 since it's initial launch, I can understand why you would want to have crates. However, I will say that you (and for what it's worth, EVERY other dev who has implemented these) are doing it wrong.
In TF2, you get a crate and it has 5 items. One of items is rare and hard to get. The other items are good and worth the 2.50 key purchase. You clearly can see what you are going to get. You are listing what items will drop, so there is at least this.
The part in which the implementation is flawed is that the box contains xp buffs. I have a VA50. XP buffs are worthless to me. I don't care to get them, I wouldn't spend money on them. To me, getting a XP buff from the box is the equivalent to having a window pop that says "sorry you lose". I think most people would agree with me, although I suppose I could be wrong.
So there's the problem: in TF2 I get a crate and I want to go buy a key if the crate is for my class. I want to get the "strange" weapons they drop. The rare items would be awesome too. And all this time, I can purchase a key without fear that the box will be the equivalent of empty.
In STO, I can't imagine buying a key, because I played the Winter content and both boxes I opened had XP buffs. In essence, I played the lottery and lost.
You want to make these boxes work and have people willing to purchase keys? Take out the junk items. There is no reason to have low quality garbage in the boxes. Period.
Cryptic and Perfect world from what Im reading and understanding from the community on this subject and im not saying that i wont buy them. I may only buy 10 though and not give you another $200 I simply dont have the money as Im unemployed and a college student. But it would appear that you are on the verge of facing a possible boycott of these events if your not going to restructure them. Not it seems like if you leave them in the game people would be more happy to do this because over the course of the game you can collect them and open them when you want. Personally I love that idea because it wont make the Dilithium exchange go into BS mode. I would really look close at the communities reactions. These kind of things can kill your game if not attended to.
