I've been going warp 10 a few ranks now. Though it is a bit distressing to fly at infinite speed all the time.
Except, aside from the tech manuals, warp 10 wasn't infinite. All five series had examples of ships traveling at speeds of warp 10 to 16, Voyager even gave higher numbers.
If the scale in the tech manuals was ever actually used in the show, at Voyagers best speed the trip home would have been home in either a month and change or 3 years (depending on which of the conflicting formulas you use for warp 9 and above), not 77 years.
Not to high jack the topic but where exactly do you see your warp speed? I have yet to see it anywheres on any of my panels while navigating through space from system to system.

The Tech manual I have stated that the reason the Constitution class starship was able to achieve a higher warp factor than the Galaxy class was that the "math" behind the factors was changed and if the Constitution class starship was the star of TNG it would be unable to go faster than warp factor 10.
I can post word for word what the warp section of my tech manual I have states if anyone interested.
I agree that there have been examples of ships being flung faster than warp 10 but by the tech manual I have apparently the math changed and that no starship as of TNG was able to achieve warp factor 10 on its own. Power consumption would increase out of control the closer you got to 10 to infinite.
Okay, i have max points spent in Driver Coil which increases my warp speed in sector space, yet i can only max out at 9.41, why is that? I would like to hit Warp 10 and i thought maxing this out would achieve that, what else do i need?
Max warp speed without any boosters is warp factor 9.975 at level 50
I got into a ... discussion of this in Sirius sector space the other day. :/
Warp factors in TOS followed an ad-hoc system (they were, even more than later, making this up as they went along). The writer's bible and tech manual for TNG rewrote the scale, rationalizing or metric-izing it with 10 as infinity. They pretty much stuck to this through all the later shows, even that one episode that we don't talk about.
Cryptic, I suppose, didn't like dealing with numbers like 9.999976 for very high warp factors, and have effectively rewritten the scale again.
