After yesterday matches I started to think about joining OPVP.

Now, my main toon (and preferred play style) is healer. Clean, straight (like good vodka ) healer. Nothing else in there. Could someone throw a look at my build and tell me if I am doing it right? In PUGs I can keep escorts and scis alive pretty well, but OPVP sounds more dangerous so I would like to check it.

Here is my toon from skillplanner: http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skil...=zarathossci_0

There are some leftovers from times when I tried a DPS on Sovereign, I need to grind some dilithium and buy respec token to get rid of few weapon skills.

And here my ship:

Weapons: Phasers 4x Mk XI [Acc][Dmg]x2, Mk X [CtrH]x2, Mk X [CtrD]x2, 2x Photon torpedoes Mk X [CtrD][Dmg]
Deflector: Positron Deflector Array Mk XII [ShdS][Ins]
Impulse Engines: Combat Impulse Engines Mk XII [Spd][Turn]
Shield Array: Regenerative Mk XII blue [Ap][Reg] (grinding ECs to buy Mk XII [Reg]x2 or x3)

Eng consoles: Diburnium Mk XII, Parametalic Mk XII (green), 2x SIF generator Mk X (blue)
Sci consoles: Power Insulator, hield Amplifier, Inertial Dampener - all Mk X (blue)
Tac consoles: 2xPhaser Mk X (blue)

Looks decent, but drop the shields for some covariant, or better yet, get MACO. A Borg set also has terrific regen properties, if you insist on regen. If nothing else, get the borg engines, deflector and console for the 3 set bonus. I'd make those your number one priority. Use Quantum torps as well. Photons are for spending time on target, and cruisers usually aren't on target that much. You want the burst from Q torps. Or throw on some more beams.

Regen shields will just get you killed in PvP, cause in the time that it'll take your shields to tick once every 6 seconds, you could be dead. Rely on your EPtS, sci team, TSS, and engy class skills for regen. A few thousand shield HP could save you from death as a buffer.

Boff wise looks good, but the Aux to dampeners will interfere with your Aux to SIF. Some like dampeners, but I don't, although I sometimes play with it. Not really much else to put in there, cept for another emergency power.

On the Doff side of things, get some maintenance engineers to get your Teams cooldown near 15 seconds, and you can drop the extra Tac team.

Skill side of things, ya you could drop the weapon specialization like you said. Get Starship manuevers. Also, I'm leery about putting 9 points in most skills. 6 points gives you about 85% of the total skill. But I did max shield systems, shield emitters, and a few others. Up to you in that regard. It allows you to spread a lot more points around, specially in sci stuff, but if you never use those, eh, no point I guess.

It looks like you're using the Odyssey?

If you're not using the Universal LtC for a Sci BO, you're missing out. All you have is a Star Cruiser with a lower turn rate. I'd be happy to give you my LtC Sci-based Oddy build; I've found great success with it.

A few nitpicks with your build though:
- You've got wayyyy too many Teams. I run with 3 myself, but 4 is just overkill. Like Otheym said, use a few Maintenance Engineers to get your CDs down to ~15 seconds. I do that on my Odyssey, and it lets me cycle 1 TacTeam perfectly. And in combination with my shield heals/Hazards/Aux to SIF, I VERY rarely touch my EngTeam.

- Aux to ID clashes with Aux to SIF, however, if you're using it to protect yourself from stuns/repels while you're using Extend, perfect! Just don't pop it willy nilly to bump up your turn rate.

- Swap your Lt Sci abilties. You want Hazard 1 and TSS 2. Shield healing is far more valuable and you've already got a decent chunk of hull healing already coming from your Aux to SIF and EngTeam. You won't notice much loss of healing dropping from Hazard 2 to 1, but you'll notice a lot bigger benefit going from TSS 1 to 2.

- For gear, I'd highly recommend going with 3 pieces of the Borg set and the MACO shields.

And just as a general note; You can run 100 Weapons Power, do excellent DPS, and still heal 100% of the time. Sure, you won't be killing people left and right, but you'll be supporting your team with high support damage. You don't even have to actively try and hunt people down. Just tab around, find someone in your range, and let them have it with your weapons while you keep your eye on your teammates. Even better yet, you can target through an Escort and provide them with support fire. Here's a screenshot of my Eng/Odyssey (Unknown Entity) doing just that.

I'd actually disagree on that - if you're running high shield power via EPtS, the natural shield resistance and EPtS boost won't make your Regens as squishy as you'd think. They're also great at, obviously, regenerating themselves. I ran with them for a while and kind of enjoyed them. The key is to constantly be distributing your shields, whether you're under attack or not. If you are going to use a Regen, you have to use the Borg ones; they're far better than all of the others.

But, MACO is still > everything else.

http://forums.startrekonline.com/sho...d.php?t=249906 This might help

But, your build is actually pretty good as far as bridge officers go. The only thing I would change is moving Transfer Shields1 up to 2 and HE2 down to HE1. Or changing out HE2 for Transfer shields 2.

Your gear needs help, but the boff skills are there
Deflector, change for Borg, Maco, or Omega
Engines, match which ever you go with for your deflector
Shields, Maco, Omega or Borg.

Sci Console, Put a Borg Console in there somewhere.

I'm partial to ET2 over ET3 --- run epts3 in it's place. Some may argue against it but I like it (1 it help you survive under heavy fire and it boasts ES.)

Also get a aux2sif3 and run ES2. ES2 is 80% of ES3 --- but with epts3 and pwr @ 70 you get about the same as you would a dry ES3. At least with resist. Add the aux2sif3 --- most good escorts aren't going to die while that's on them.

As far as the sci layout, I'm indifferent with HE1/2 - TSS1/2. While TSS2 is def better, most the time with a good team, the hull/resist from HE2 seems to work better, for me anyway. Shields are def more important over hull heals over time.

I run epts1/3 - epta1 and constantly cycle those in matches. Add the RMC and a shield/aux batt you can almost always keep your shields/aux @ 120+.

Check the SIF generators as well. I believe the little return you get from 2 somewhat NILs them. Also update to MK XI blues. Run more resist consoles in it's place.
