taking bo and rapid fire i found hurts the sustained dps but increased the burst. i played my recon for sustained energy and burst kentic. although i suppose taking a beta 1 +tac team + bo1 might negate the rapid fire.
ive neve liked circling a target in a recon. its too escorty to be flown like a cruiser. maybe 6 beams in a dssv or none torp vulcan ship might be something to look into. 90% of the damage i do in games now is from kenetic damage or warp plasma. im tempted to run plasma beams to see if that helps more then tetryons though. why take out the shields when you can bypass them completely.
I'm planning on using this with my Eng, so power is no concern
and lol Plasma beams. Barring the fact that everyone and their mother has at least a 20% resist to them, the proc's damage is so pitifully low.
FAW 1 (needed a filler, might as well clear some spam), RF 1
TacTeam 1
EPtS 1, Aux to SIF 1 (debating going with Aux to ID instead)
SciTeam 1, TSS 2, Tachyon Beam 3
HE 1, TSS 2, Tachyon Beam 3, PSW 3
3x Shield Distribution DOffs (I'm poor, so I only have 1 White + 2 Greens )
2x Warp Theorist
I like it so far, but with the amount of shield strip I'm getting (even without Tet Glider), I do find myself missing a torp up front. If I can get my hands on some nice Shield Distro DOffs, I might put a PSW CD reduction one on instead.

it is possble to get a 30sec cooldown shockwave. so if you beef up its damage and do that its like a mini tricobalt device that doesnt hurt ya back.
So would you suggest that someone captaining that Recon have their Energy Weapon Specialization at 9 and leave off the Projectile Specialization?
first off, as a big fan of the dune series i must applaud you on your choice of @handles.
that being said...
any toon that is not a tac captain in a recon sci should be focused on shield stripping via cpb, and holds via grav well, and do weapons damage via torpedoes.
Thanks! I am compelled to read at least the first three Dune books every other year or so (and i throw in 'God Emperor' as a garnish from time to time).
...
Shoulda clarified: I am currently running a Sci captain. I 've just returned to the game recently and leveled him from Captain to VA. Still trying to sort through all the info in the forums, figuring out what currently works well or not, and what my focus should be, so i can then effectively respec him. I'm mainly going to be PvE with friends.
Currently i've been experimenting with:
2 DBBs and a quantum torp in front, 2 beam arrays and a torp in back (all beams are phaser)
Tac Abilitites: Tac Team, BO2 and HYT1
Sci Skills: Other than the usual heals, the standout powers would be Feedback Pulse, Tractor Beam and RTB.
Allegedly thats a decent setup for DPS, but I'm still getting a feel for it and its not really grown on me.
Havent bought the ships for the shockwave console or point defense yet.
So anyway, yeah i ended up in this thread, trying to figure out which way to go, since it seemed to be the best recent one i could find.
Out of curiosity, why CPB instead of Tachyon Beam...AoE?

Dunno damian, polarized tets (5 to 6 of them) on a sci sci, in a recon with say FAW1 and 2 or FAW1, BO2, tac team, with a tet glider, aux and weapon power bias, with cpb2 would be pretty scary to deal with.
(you could also not run polarized tets and run normal tets too since that proc actually works now and do more actual damage without FAW)
Grav wells repel doesn't seem to be aux dependent in the tool tip either. So you'd only be losing on it's damage assuming you didn't just crack open an aux battery or get an eps power transfer from the engie.
also worth pointing out PSW's damage is not aux dependent either right now.
