# 1 Misleading facebook ad
02-16-2012, 02:53 PM
Not sure where to post this, so here goes. I noticed a STO ad in facebook today, can you spot what's wrong with the image? http://i44.tinypic.com/300weuf.png
The character creator looks nothing like what is shown in the image. It kinda looks like they've overlayed a Perfect World character creator with a random STO character. I would say it's misleading.

As someone with experience making those ads (and who's gone through more than a few tutorials on how to make effective FB ads) I'd say consider yourself lucky that the ad is even remotely close to the reality of the game (which that one is).

They're just clickthroughs. On Facebook. Accuracy is low on the hierarchy here.

Well its certainly not accurate but im not sure how misleading it is. the interface for hair and colour options is not exactly how it is in game. you still have customization, the UI just looks different.

is anyone going to be put off by that?

If there was no customization then i would say its misleading.

it ticks all the norms for a facebook advert advertising a sci fi game aimed at a mostly male audience:

1: boob slider at max.

Why would someone go to the trouble of bullshotting the Character Creation interface when one already exists in the game?

Pretty sure we have little to do with any of those ads. I remember there being Champions ads that literally showed Captain America. . .

That's not our doing.

if its not your doing, and not PW's doing, then who did it? wouldn't be bright to do that and then the company turn around and go after a person for copyright violation and whatever they're trying to get out of the add.

thing is I don't see why anybody but the company that runs the game would even put out an ad for STO

Cryptic has no say as to how their parent company or other companies represent their game?

It is still your game, right. It is your product. No?

You could do nothing if CBS or PWE used Yoda in a STO ad?
