There seems to be another "IWIN" setup being run by numerous people in the PvP community, and after some trial and error, it seems that some of the more outstanding memebers of said community have "cracked the code", so to speak. So, I am posting this to let all of the community know how it works, and to decide if you want to run this yourself, or still try to play an decent, fun game.
We all know how D(irected) E(nergy) M(odulation) works: Shield penetrating damage that goes straight to the hull. It is strengthened by tactical buffs, Emergency Power to Weapons & higher weapons power, achieved through high weapons power settings or batteries. The more the skill gets buffed up, the more damage goes straight to the hull & for each portion of engergy damage, be it a cannon pulse, or ticks of damage during the duration of a beam array hitting the ship. Now, one weapon hitting the ship is kind of a "shrug it off" situation, but a ship doesn't have just one weapon, it has 4-8, depending on what class ship (assuming said ship is being flown by a VA). Now, with all of these weapons targeted on an opponent, he will be feeling a little prickle, and it will get his attention, but wait! You also have two pieces of the Omega gear on, so you now, you are getting the Tetryon Glider effect too! Shield stripping power, enhanced by Flow Capacitors skill and Flow Capacitor consoles! Now you are killing shields and hull AT THE SAME TIME! Oh joy! Your opponent is really starting to feel the heat now!
Oh, and now the secret of success to this formula: you have to run PHASER weapons. The thing about DEM is this: It is boosted by tactical consoles, but not by much, EXCEPT for phasers and phaser relays. Instead of doing 44 hull damage per weapon pulse, you can easily make it do around 130 hull damage per weapon pulse, per weapon.
But it gets even better! Throw F(ire) A(t) W(ill) into the mix! The one abiliy in the game that stands a chance of hitting multiple random targets 100% of the time! "How much fun can we have now, Dave?"
"Now Dave," you may be saying to the imaginary, exuberant announcer, "This is just against a single target. How does it really become an 'IWIN' setup?"
Dave says, "Easy. You get four other people of comparable "skill", usually four cruisers and an escort, preferably of the Tactical career and you all run the same thing: DEM 2 & 3 (or 1 & 2, depending on the class of ship), FAW 3 & 2 (or, again, 1 & 2, depending on the class ship), an EPtW 1, just to make sure that you can run high shields and keep your weapon power up with ability and batteries, and....OH! We can't forget, make sure to keybind all your heals to your teammates, so just incase any of the poor souls you are LOLIWIN-ing over just happens to make it out of the living meat-grinder and manages to mount a decent alpha strike, you can launch your alpha heal to the poor soul's target, and continue on the LOLIWIN-ing. You and your friends will be owning the field of PvP combat while bathing in the tears of "hax" and "using broken skills" criers. Bask in the glorious light of knowing that you are now the DEADLIEST PVPER!" (queue the "Deadliest Warrior" theme). And all it took was some phasers, FAW, DEM, an a whole lot of "Well, that was over in 30 seconds....hmmmm....why does that seem familiar? *checks bedroom self-esteem and finds that it is lacking* Oh yeah...."
So, now even the average player can have the tools to make an "IWIN" setup, but remember, it doesn't do any good if you are the only one running it. Share it with your friends and let them in on the 30 second fun too, but please, for the love of God, you can run this setup with only one hand, but please play with both hands on the keyboard. Someone needs to steer the ship.
Yes, it is true and has been around a while.
That is a perfectly legit in the rules set-up.
Though I think a Dev stated that DEM may be currently working to well so it ups the damage.
It works very well on the BortaS too.
The only reason I run DEM is that Iím all about the damage and agility.
Also be aware there is a huge skill difference in PVP right now you can run in to people who can single hand wipe out an apposing team. Or a Top level player can support four less skilled players in Wiping a team with a reasonable level of skill.
Just because a player is really good at PVP doesnít mean he is cheating or exploiting.
