# 1 Which Escort - VA ship
02-16-2012, 02:08 AM
Although I like my current ship - Advanced Escort, I've decided that I would like to upgrade again to one of the C-Store ships.

My problem is that I can't decide which way to jump - Tactical Escort Retrofit or the Multi-vector Advanced Escort. A big part of this indecision is based on not knowing which ship will best suit my play style...which is to get in range and duke it out pretty much.

So the question is, would the extra Engineering or the extra Science console benefit me most?

OR

Is there a ship that would better suit my play style?

If "get in range and duke it out pretty much" can be read as intention to deal max damage, the Defiant-R will more likely be suited for you, since the MVAE trades it's lcmdr tactical BO power for a science one - resulting in less damage output.

If cloak is not a major point for you, you might even want to stay with the AE or get yourself the a bit more resilient Fleet Escort instead.

Or maybe you can shove the MVAE console onto your Advanced Escort.

MVAE is a PVP escort ship. Advanced is a PVE ship.

In PVP that lt cmdr slot allows you to equip feedback pulse II which is virtually a death sentence to any other escort firing at you. In PVE the lt cmdr science at best merely lets you use gravity well 1 or power siphon.

You can use the multivector console on the Advanced escort however for the cool factor but really.. its a waste of c-points if its just for that fluff.

Honestly my best suggestion for you is to spend the c-points in a ship that is really, really worth it: Nebula Refit.

It has :

Lt. Universal slot
Lt Tactical
Cmdr Science
Ensign Science
Lt Cmdr Engineering

You lose 1 weapon slot up front and turn rate vs an escort ship but you gain a ship that is so versatile you can literally kit it to outperform cruisers in tanking+damage or outperform escorts in aoe damage (but not single tgt dmg) and outperforms any other science vessel flat out.

Its a completely different game experience than the escort and well worth it.

One thing to consider.

Everytime you buy C-Points, you get an equal amount of C-Points on Tribble (The test server). Log into the Tribble server, and check out one (Or both, if you have enough points) ship.

Personally, I love my Multi-Vector. I can tear through anything with it, despite the loss of a LCDR Tac Station. Even against the Defiant, 1v1, I have never lost. Once you separate (MV Mode), you can dance in circles around the Defiant.

Tribble?

I don't see any option to select shards/servers....

You have to 'apply' to use the Tribble Server. I forget where the page is. Let me see if I can find my old thread about it, which has the link. I'll edit here, when I find it.

Try here: http://www.startrekonline.com/test-s...acter-transfer

While the nebula has for sure it's merits, I won't ever suggest it someone who asks specifically for an escort. No cannons, no turnrate, no high tac BOs, it's a total different experience and playstyle - and for a new captain who has flown and enjoyed escorts most likely a huge letdown and dissapointment.

Thanks for the continued suggestions, appreciated.

Just to reiterate, and perhaps clarify, my issue: currently I am using an Advanced Escort that is built following the STF Escort build threads. It works very well and I am having a lot of fun with it.

My current play style with this ship is to get within 10k of my target and let it have it with cannons (cannon rapid fire) quickly followed by a torp (high yield) . My speed is 1/2 to 1/4 depending on the enemy - the bigger the enemy the slower I come at them. In most cases they are dead before I am close enough to worry about the explosion. Other times I throw it into reverse and hammer away at them until they die, unless they drop engine plasma which is when I go evasive and get back out to 9k or so; dropping a 'Peng on them for good measure while retreating.

My question is thus; given how I play, would an extra Eng or Sci console help me most?
