If I may ask, how do you determine what is a "non-canon" ship name.

Cause to me, that simply is saying every ship players use MUST be named after a ship in canon, which I doubt is what you mean.

There never was a naming convention, and some ships do have slightly silly names. But as long as they aren't vulgar I don't see the issue. (like the USS Bum Rush, an example escort. I don't see a problem).

I probably didn't explain it as well as I could have but by non-canon I meant names that would not have been the type of name you would have heard on any tv episode such as USS Corn Flakes or USS Pickup truck. Those aren't offensive words, aren't brand names, or vulgar yet would be considered non-canon. Canon names would have been cities, states, people, planets, events, verbs and nouns denoting power, pride, exploration or hope.

Non-canon is at the lowest or not even on my list of astonishment with the lack of naming enforcement. I'd much rather see the 'USS Peas N Butterbeans' fly by me than the 'USS Bong' captained by Mary Jane.

According to Stormshade's interview with Priority One back in..... October, I think? They expected this.... and there isn't much they can do about it. Just report what you can and move on. Like Shade said, we're supposed to share our love of Trek, or some hippie garbage

GMs? What? I don't think you noticed what happened in 2011.

Wait, we're not allowed to name our ships after people/gods/whatever in mythology?

It does say "major deity or figure," which wouldn't encompass most mythologies. The only few that aren't dead entirely aren't major, with the one exception being Hindu, two if you count what supremacists did with Norse mythology as a religion.

You can, it's done, it's no big deal. I think the filter would prevent from using a name like Jesus Christ, or maybe something that could be construed as controversial. Just don't name your ship after a sexual act or something.

so can we name our ships after mythological deities? such as Yahweh(the Christian, Jewish and Muslim God, that name being only one of many) or any Hindu deities? i mean it is just mythology so i wouldnt see a problem with it.

I take it this rule was pretty much scrapped at some point? I want to join in with my own colorful names if that's the case.

Actually I don't think there has ever been a rule against "non canon" names. Official ships and vulgar names yes, they are prohibited. If you see one open a GM-ticket category Behavior.

But everything else (Deities, items...) is allowed afaik.
