I'm fine with the cloak as is, I just think it should be integral to the ships that they come standard for, just as they do for the Klingon Vessels. Why should a Klingon ship get the same Console slots, as well as cloak? At least there is a balancing of the battle cloak on a bop with the lack of weapon slots, and an extremely squishy hull/shields. The reality is, I do think they should change how this works, but its not such a huge deal it matters. For things like STF's my defiant doesn't even use a cloak. Its pointless, and just takes up a console slot. For pvp it can be passing decent, and its similar to playing a raptor on kdf side.

Klingon ships were built with cloak in mind, but Fed ships must be retrofitted to fit a cloak, so a console makes sense.

I use cloak in STFs for the damage bonus.

QFT

I use it at the beginning of Infected to open a can of whoop *** on one of the spheres while the rest of my mates distract the cube.

Normal Cloak's great on wimpy damage dealers. I'm not hunting a defiant when I have 4 other ships shooting beams at me, and the uncloaking alpha strike has a high chance of catching me by surprise.

I'm sure it helps against borg somehow too? They're gonna throw plasma death balls at the ships they can see first.

Man I don't know what the Galaxy X is about. If I can't see your cruiser, I'm shooting at science and escorts. And that's bad! I would look at a cloaking cruiser as more "fun" than "game winning."

Yes, that is correct. You get an extra 15% damage output for 5 seconds after you decloak. More then enough time to kill an unsuspecting and unprepared opponent with a great alpha strike.
Fixed. I don't use the consoles in PvE though since that damage bonus is not worth a console slot.

It's great in Kerrat.

1. Sneak up on that half-dead Klink ship locked in combat with someone else and not paying attention. Same basic tactic the Klinks use when you're fighting the rats.
2. Run away. If engagement is going south, hit EM, Deut., etc. to break the engagement, shift power to 100% engines to keep distance until no longer in combat, then hit cloak, change direction, and full impulse. Klinks have no idea where you are. Heal & set up your next attack.
3. Strategic Mobility. If you just want to kill rats for your dailies, use the cloak to find a quiet spot away from the Klinks. You can also use it to fly right next to a repair hulk without having to kill dozens of rats to get there.

I'd like to note that, if you managed to get away and cloak, chances are, your target that is chasing after you will do the same. And then you can't find one another.

It would probably be better to do this after you get logged out of Ker'rat due to 15 mins of inactivity. When you log back in, you are now an enemy to all Federation (and probably Klingons) and kill them as many times as you like. If things get boring, or you're getting spawn camped, leave the system as soon as you can, as this will once again put you back on the Fed side.

I LOVE my Fed/Defiant cloak. It's all too easy in PVE to get the damage bonus and in PVP the thing is TOPS for Cap & Hold and downright avoiding getting killed. You can creep SUPER close to other players and the bulk of them will not even know you're there as demonstrated here: http://youtu.be/01o8knw1PYQ

Also, in Fed only PVP Capture & Hold players with a cloaking device are at a HUGE advantage as the Defiant's can get under an asteroid, out of LoS, decloak, cap or uncap a point, cloak, get to next spot. I never have to fire any weapons unless I choose to. Even when I'm caught by another player, power to engines, evasive maneuvers, GONE, cloak. I've had ppl call me chicken and say it's a BS tactic but it's purely a superior tactic when it comes to winning.

The last Cap & Hold PVP I was in had 1 other Fed cloaker, a Dreadnought. Odd thing was, he never cloaked. He failed to utilize one of his biggest advantages, surprise. That's what the cloak is for. I can't tell you how many times I've had a KDF player decloak, blast thru my shields, blow me up, then battle cloak to avoid my teammates. Drove me NUTS. Cloaking devices, whether Fed or KDF, innate or console, are an absolute must in my book. If I could use my cloak in another ship, I would. Could you imagine a MVAM (MVeM?) with a cloaking device? *drool*

The Qin Raptor needs an RCS console to match turn rate with a Defiant, so think of it as having an RCS console integrated as opposed to a cloak perhaps? :p
