Honestly, I'm well disappointed with this ship. I expected a lot more from it. I wish I'd gone with the Defiant or Intrepid instead, but (until I receive enough dilithium at least) I'm stuck with it. Quite simply though, I'm curious as to a few good set-ups for the Galaxy. I figure I can only be using her incorrectly.

Sadly she's no more use than i healer in stf runs. The lt tactical console and lower weapon firepower make her unfavourable as a combat ship esp in elite.
She seriously needs to have a boff console revamp to make her appealing as other than fans of the ship wanting her the prommie refit, defiant refit and galaxy-x al far are better.
Drop the ensign engineer and make it tactical and we have a ship with better tact ability where the cool down times on the lt tact aren't a burden.

That's because STFs are DPS-centric. STFs have a poor design, IMO. They need to be more Trinity orientated so that each ship type has a purpose in them, rather then everyone just jumping into their Escort.

No, make it a universal ensign. Also, it needs a third tactical slot.

I've experience all three ships as a captain multiple times. The easiest was the intrepid. The worst was Defiant (it was so fragile). Galaxy can easily be made into a good beam boat. The horrible turn radius just takes some getting used to.

It can do more than heal, it can tank and pretty well too, I know because I tank on Elite STF's vs tac cubes. The escorts don't need a healer when they aren't getting shot :p

It may not be the best ship, many don't like it, but I do and I can make it work in elite stf's and pvp, which is kinda enough really.

If there weregoing to be changes to it though, I'd rather swap the Lt Sci and Lt Com Eng stations around.

Um, for all of you talking about STFs, I believe the OP here is referring to the Captain level ships, where you can't even do normal STFs yet,

And to answer the OP, there are different ways you can go about it, but the most common way people tend to play it would probably be as a beam boat. If you can get your weapon energy level as close to 125 as possible, either through consoles or a copy of Emergency Power to Weapons, and broadsiding opponents.
And ability like Fire at Will is useful both for multiple weapon opponents, or as a damage booster against a single opponent.

Don't go with all 7 slots with beams though, that's too much of a weapon drain. 5 or 6 beams, and probably a torpedo in the front, and maybe one in the back if you want.

I drove my Galaxy like I do all the cruisers... BROADSIDE them to death and only go with an aft torpedo to seal in the damage when their shields are down.

Of course I also had a Torpedo in the fore section as well, but that's only when I could turn around for another sweep when the NPC or PC was going away to strafe again.

I WOULD like to try out a Defiant... But that'll wait until I get enough Dilithium.

I made the same mistake. I was flying an Excelsior before hand, and could not abide by the fact that the Galaxy is a complete barge. So I kept using the Excelsior all through Captain.

Whats so wrong with this ship is the luna class science vessel has more tactical muscle than the Galaxy Refit

Luna
lt tactical
ensign tactical
3 x tactical consoles.
Slightly better weapons power 971 vs galaxy 935 with no 3.5% weapon boosters

Galaxy
lt tactical
2 x tactical consoles

Galaxy is a very under loved ship in this game by cryptic in its tactical abilities

Bridge setup on Galaxy should be

Lt tactical
Lt universal
Cmd Engineering
Lt Command Engineer
Lt Cmd Science

and a 3rd tactical console

Turn rate needs to be increased from 6 to 8.

at the time this ship was build she had the heaviest phasers equipped type 10 the best torpedo launcher equipped Now you could argue that the ship is x amount of years old by now but there no way this ship should be beaten by the Excelsior

Cruiser tier with cannon ships
Excelsior (current Galaxy)
Galaxy (current Sovvie)
Sovvie ( Current Excelsior)
Galaxy-x (same but with the lt tact station increase to lt cmd and cannons removed to balance the ability to equip csv and crf 2 )

Or if cryptic sont want to upgrade the galaxy allow us to use the skin on the galaxy-x
