People say that you have to stay away from the Warbird's forward firing arcs to avoid it's High Yield Torp attack, but I have been frustrated many times by this attack because it's fired the things sideways at me.

Personally, I find that using Sensor Jam on the D'Deridex (or any ship) when it gets me in it's tractor beam (Attack Pattern Omega and Polarize Hull will also break a tractor beam's affect) then using Beam Fire At Will to take out those HY Torps effective.

(I have posted a complaint about how difficult the enemies are on Elite, and used this situation (the Warbird's torp attack) as evidence too, so I know where you're coming from. Interestingly, Battleships and Heavy Escorts used to kill me over and over again on Elite, but now I'm using Mk XI and XII gear it's no-where near as bad - I completed ALL system patrols and was only destroyed thrice, each time by a Battleship of some sort, but that's better than being killed 3 times or more by every single one as before. lol)

I just thought my experiences, being somewhat similar to your own, might be useful to you.

WTF?????????
I have played this stupid mission over 10 times and each time the same outcome..
he hits me with some MASSIVE blast that destroys me in seconds or knocks me down so much that a simple phaser kills me...

How is this mission any fair????
Either shoot the torps, get a friend to help, or use When it shoots Torps at you face away from it and drop mines to act as a missle shield.

It's a rough mission. Ship uses 2 main abilities against you, High Torpedo Yield and Torpedo Spread and usually at the same time.

In addition to mines if you have the ability I'd use eject Warp Plasma to create a sort of barrier between you and the ship. You can shoot all your weapons through it but if it tries to shoot a high yield at you while your positioned behind the Warp Plasma trail it'll just get insta-killed by going through the trail.

Because the plasma torpedoes are in the game... I use Plasma Leak venting, Tyken's Rift and phasers to destroy plasma torpedoes.

Simple, yet effective. I don't use mine launchers so that gives me a way to destroy them from Borg, Undine, Romulans... God I hate plasma.

Grrr, this mission

I had a lot of trouble with that frikking ship - I...R...W...Sithesh.

After being repeatedly squashed like a bug and eventually having to level up to captain:

I would battle the Sithesh for ages, bring it down to about 50% health, then it would warp out! I was never farther away than a range of about 16 and wasn't really straying all that far from Hobus I, but it kept disappearing after all my hard work!
SO, I tried staying as close as possible to Hobus I, of course.
The Sithesh's response was to get stuck on the side of the map. It couldn't enter the map or advance and if I got within range my weapons would not be able lock onto it but it could fire at me just fine!
So I just let it kill me so I could respawn, but it was still stuck there, still able to fire at me without me being able to shoot back... so i had to abort the mission and restart.

In the end, it eventually got stuck on the side of Hobus I, unable to fire at me this time, allowing me to park nearby and happily pummel it, at my leisure, to completion. Finally.

I know it isn't really in the spirit of the Federation for me to say this... but I hate the Sithesh and her crew and I hope they are in whatever the Reman hell is forever

At first I had some problems and also frustration with this mission. I like to play escorts in an agressive way with hit and run tactics, but I could only do minor damage to her, while she did massive damage to me.

The Sithesh has a speed boost. She can really go fast at some points. So suddenly she is close on your six and unleashes her plasma torpedoes. By the way getting on an AI ships six is pretty difficult in this game, even with a cloaked ship.

Anyway my final tactic with a lighter vessel against a capital ship. I fly past her in opposite direction and try to turn on her six. The Sithesh can move fast but she cannot turn fast. That is her weakness. So I end up flying in a circle with my opponent on the other side, each chasing each other. Keep that position, distance 7 to 9 km, spamming your beams and spamming your arrow key for the shield that is taking the heat. At some point her shields will open. Now it is time to nuke your torpedoes in; make a zig zag so you can fire a fore and aft torpedoe. It will take some time and you have to do some work, but she goes down and she won't scratch your hull.

Replaying this mission is a bit frustrating since the first two fights will, no matter what, end with her withdrawing from battle. (I'll be back ... yeah fine, so I can beat you again). That is my only critic.

Ahh, I recall this mission. The ship uncloaked within 2km of my cruiser and nuked me. I was well prepared the next time round, was the only time I ever died in Space Missions.

The simplest solution in my experience when dealing with Warbirds is loading either Fire at Will or Cannon Scatter Volley and stying where you have enough time to react to the Warbird i e 5 km so when you see the first torpedo coming at you activate your weapons buff and shoot as many as you can down.
It also helps a lot when you get a feeling for the cycle between these HY salvoes.

amen. i want the 10 second cooldown on the high yeild plasmas those pesky romulan bird of preys fire
