# 1 Cruiser DPS
03-13-2012, 06:49 PM
Greetings fellow Captains and Ensigns. Most of you being Ensigns.

I have been doing alot of testing between my Escort and Cruiser.
One thing that comes to mind is that my Cruiser has a Tenth of the DPS of my Escort. Even with Threat boosts, I really don't think I can kill a target fully on me, let alone multiples in Elite STFs. But when soloing on my cruiser my dps is not that impressive whatsoever. I am a theorycrafter and I have given very solid guides on ship setups and battle styles for my fleet, most of our STF teams is now full MK XII.

I am currently really enjoying flying in my Odyssey Star Cruiser.

I even tried running with 3 DUal Beam banks and 4 turrets and a quantum to boaster my DPS which is very narrow minded for a Cruiser Style play, the dps increase was horrible due to the lack of turnrate.

So yeah I understood that. So I began sitting and thinking about alternatives. So I remembered my post about redesigning Projectile Weaponary which lead to a new launcher that can has a wider arc. Okay I guess? 135 Degree arc, about 50% increase to the standard launcher. View the Post here.

Another suggestion I came up with and found other posts about it aswell but I support the idea being for Cruisers only. Cruisers are big ships, really big with alot of major power sources. So obviously they can mount larger weaponary, with their large phaser strips and to my understanding. A Galaxy's Phaser Arrays are much much stronger than a Runabouts. So obviously an escort's weapon would be middle tier, so here is my suggestion:

Heavy <Type> Beam Array.
205 Degree Arc
Deals Damage about 225% the total damage of a standard Beam Array deals in a single click.
To Self: -18 Weapon Setting.
Cannot be equipped to Shuttles, Escorts, Destroyes, Science Vessels, and other sub-cruiser craft.

This weapon Fire's Once with a normal beam weapon Cooldown.
Fire at Will would fire short bursts.
Beam Overload will probably hit like a truck.
Target subsystems will just hit normally.

Obviously this weapon should be baseline and not a C-Store Item. This is to address a balance issue for Cruisers DPS. They do have amazing survivability but it's a stalemate, nobody will die in 1v1 combat. Either ship lacks the DPS to beat the other's survivability.

If needed to be, then obviously the Cruiser's Surviability should be nerfed for PvP situations. But lets be realistic. I went on for well over an hour with a Advanced Escort with MVAM Console and neither of us (both MK XII) died.

Cruiser DPS is fine. I'm not sure why it's an issue for you.

Cruisers are tanks not DPS, you aren't supposed to put out a lot of DPS like an escort. It's called balance.

I run the 3 duals and 1 torp in the front.

Not being able to turn is intrinsic to the cruiser pilot.

But there are ways to bypass a majority of not hbeing able to turn on a dime.

Approach the mob slower....burst speeds but not long enough to gather momentum coupled with aux to inertial make for a wonderous turn rate for a cruiser+ evasive.

I do not run beam bank boats at all as they are horrid dps.

I run my cruiser with my engineer and dps is not an issue.

Also, as others have said, a cruiser is not a dps platform. Even with a tac it is lackluster execept in the Gal X (which is what my tac flies....dual cannons and rear turrets)

One thing that I have noticed is that the beam frilly BOff skills like Fire are so overused and virtually useless when trying to dps tactically. I do love when a cruiser pop a fire at will and much of his shot hoit the gate and aggro the gate...he or she most often pops afterwards.

Focusing your fire and possibly using the beam overload or the turret rapid fire mk 1 do a much better job.

YES YES...I am gonna concede that fire at will against a solo target..how many times will you be soloing a target as compared to multple targets.

I think projectiles have a satisfactory fire arc as is.

A well run cruiser can handle dang near anything thrown at it. WIth the sole exceptions the the Elite Tactical Cube's critcal hits.

If you are having issues with dps I suggest you read the Dragon Flagship thread in the fleet yards. lots of good info there.

7 beams and 1 torp. Add fire@will abilities and your dps will be more than fine. Your job is keeping mobs off the escorts and science vessels, not to be the top dps. Only the Galaxy X was designed to be a park and shoot cruiser and it doesn't really perform all that great to be honest.

Beam Arrays for cruiser DPS , cruisers do they're damage broadside that's the way the game is designed

Cruiser DPS is excellent with 7 or 8 beam arrays

Please see the making "cruisers more useful thread"

and Hilberts Guide for builds

http://denkbassin.de/sto/

I run DPS cruisers all with 8 beams, for my tac, sci and engy

FAW and attack Beta (tac team too if using an assult or excel)
emergency power weapons 1 x 2, emergency shields 2, rsp 1, aux to sif 2, eng team 3, extend 3
HAzard emitters 1 , Transfer shields 2 (add a sci team or tss 1 for star cruiser or odessy)

Even the egineer and sci will usually out damage everybody in pug stfs and usually pug PvP in these beam cruisers and the tac as you would expect stands a chance of out damaging anything.

Don't worry, I have been fufilling tanking roles for nearly a decade. I know exactly what I am doing when it comes to tanking.
