After hitting vice admiral, I ended up with two ships that are extremely useful, my Dreadnought Cruiser and my Vice Admiral defiant-type ship. Yet, I have about seven other vessels that I don't use any more. I even have a mirror science vessel (that required rear admiral, lower status to use).

Are there any uses for these older ships, or should I just delete them?

First off, I'd say always keep any T5 ships unless it's a C-Store ship, because T5 ships are generally viable no matter whether they're the free ships or fleet or lockbox ships, and if you get rid of them you'll have to pay. Unless, again, it's a C-Store ship, which you can claim and toss at will.

However, in terms of the other ships, there are a few possible reasons. The most practical is storage, in that you can cram them full of odd gear and the like. Considering a tetryon build sometime in the future? You can accumulate the weapons on one of these ships and it won't bother your inventory.

Another would be nostalgia, if you particularly liked some of your ships.

Play style is another one, at least for T4 ships. It's possible to get through a lot of the content in a T4 ship, if you're good (or very patient), although it's not a nice thing to do end-game content in groups with a ship below T5. I have however seen people at VA successfully using a Galaxy class from T4, presumably because they like it so much but can't bring themselves to shell out for the Gal-R.

There are also occasionally opportunities to use it for various things, such as, for instance, helping to train newbies or something along those lines.

Finally (and there are probably more ideas than this), keeping one around for its data may be helpful - e.g. name, registry, skin, etc. You can then reuse those on another toon ("hand the ship down" so to speak) or use them if you should purchase a retrofit/fleet version or something like that. Granted, it is ENTIRELY possible to just write this down someplace else (or save the old skin to disk), but some people are too lazy for that.

So while in most cases there isn't a LOT you can do with them, there are occasionally cases where it's useful, at least in part, though the most practical use is as storage.

For comparison, I generally keep ships until I need to free up a slot. I'm pretty much at the point where I'm out of free ships I'm willing to boot, so now I have to cycle some of my c-store ships. That said, for each toon I typically use 2-3 ships most of the time, not including their shuttles (which are almost always Danube Runabouts).

Hope this helps some.
