# 1 Ingame mail - how long stored?
03-10-2012, 09:52 PM
Hi,
how long are mails stored? Couldn't find anything on this, so I'll try it here, maybe someone knows.

The oldest message I have in my mailbox is from April 2, 2010. So, I could be wrong, but I don't think messages expire.

When I had come back for the F2P launch, I had my first ever in game mail still sitting in my mailbox from launch day. So I'm going to assume, like davejl_99, that they don't expire ever.

I still have messages from Beta, I don't think there is an expiration date.

However, there is an upper limit on how much mail can be stored. (I bumped into this last month...) 500 is the max for your mailbox. Anything above that will be lost...

I also still have an ingame mail from open beta in my mailbox. I'm keeping it around out of nostalgia.

Dito, from 2010 though.

Only thing annoying is that its always set to "show oldest first" when I open in-game mail. :/

# 9 On the subject of in game mail

On the subject of in game mail remember to ALWAYS put the @ symbol in front of your recipients address or you will lose your items forever.

The system will not stop you with any error message should you forget and wont matter if the address is correct.

Without the @ symbol in front of the recipients address your attached items will gone forever.

The system will auto format your message address but ONLY if you click the text area. However if you are in a hurry and forget to click the of the text area or did not manually enter the @ symbol in front of the address you can kiss your items good bye no matter how precise the you typed the recipients address

The mail system does not allow the items to revert to the sender in this case. A ticket to Cryptic will avail you nothing as I believe they have bigger fish to fry. Fair enough.

3 weeks and 2 tickets later and not a peep..Fair enough.

actually i am sure it says in the tooltip that if you mis-address a mail it may take some time to return to sender (which implies that they do get returned or at least that was the intention but could be another broken feature) unless the address you did use actually exists but isn't the person you intended
