The Aquarius is around 140 meters. Cryptic scaling tends to go with studio models (hence the 170 meter Defiant) and you can confirm this figure when you look at the Aquarius and realize how big the Odyssey actually is.

It's bigger than either a Klingon Bird of Prey or a Jem'Hadar Attack Ship, both of which are T5 escorts. It's effectively the missing link between a grab bag bugship and a Defiant and probably has stats and a layout that is somewhere inbetween.

From a design perspective, I think this practically designs itself.

Echoing the Odyssey (and the Jem'Hadar ship): 1 Ensign Universal, 1 Lieutenant Commander Universal
Echoing the Defiant: 1 Lt. Engineering, 1 Lt. Science, 1 Cmdr Tactical

5 Tactical Consoles, 3 Engineering Consoles, 1 Science Console (Like the bugship but also like the Odyssey in terms of heightened skew towards intended purpose.)

Between 18-19 Turnrate -- Roughly proportional to its size difference between the bugship and the Defiant.

Passive stats: +10 Power to Weapons, +5 Power to Shields, +5 Power to Auxiliary, like the Odyssey tactical Cruiser

Special ability: Quad Cannons. Where the potential to be interesting comes in here is to make these quad cannons a different energy type, something like the new Polaron/Tetryon hybrid instead of standard phaser quad cannons like we've seen before.

Alternative special ability: Priority One Recon Distress Beacon. Summons the Odyssey as a pet in a souped up version of Fleet Support.

Comes with an Odyssey-style hybrid battle bridge. Like the Jem'Hadar ship, it's standing room only with 1-2 visible bridge officers and the ability to swap out to any ship you own from inside.

I'd buy a T3 Aquarius. I'm getting tired of the Akira at that Tier.

Considering the Vulcan D'kyr (was it?) allowed people to fly the component support craft, I am still actually surprised they have not followed suit with this aspect.

The Aquarius is way too big to be a shuttle.

No worries. Based on the Quads I'd assume it would need to be T4.

I think Dakron was right on this much. Giving a playable Aquarius escort (arguably possibly a Tier 5 ship) along with the Tac version of the Advanced Odyssey would've leaned things too much in that variant's favor - so it couldn't just come with a single ship purchase like that.

It could've been a nice bonus with the Bundle, but that obviously won't happen at this point in time. Al Rivera clearly said on STOked that the Aquarius was not in any shape to be added as playable at this time... just "maybe" in the future, as a C-Store purchase. It's too bad, since a 4-in-1 bundle would've made it chockful of great stuff despite the 50$ pricetag... but, eh, pipedream.

Say, Leviathan, your Aquarius battle bridge idea made me imagine a Runabout-like interior that was stylized with props from the Odyssey's bridge (confusingly called "Aquarius bridge" >_>). Given how large viewports come along with the Odyssey's bridge, it could make for some pretty neat restyling.

The Aquarius, depending on how many decks it has, could probably hold a couple of runabouts inside it.

There's easily room for it to have 4 decks and hold two runabouts.

I can see where you come from with it perhaps being capable of carrying small craft - there is this long rectangular hatch-like structure which could be for small craft - though I do think it'd be only a single one (after all, the larger Defiant was limited to the Chaffee as well, right?). Though, personally, the long hatch inspires me more to think of it as the ejection hatch of an horizontal warp core (which would be new and unique xD ).

You mentioned four decks. At first, I was skeptical, but I took a closer look and the hump alone has two rows of windows... so, I can picture 4 too. However, I'd stress that the interior space has to be pretty limited still - there's a lot of it that looks like it be taken up by the mechanized nacelle pylons. Seeing the windows are in the hump, I expect living space to be mostly there.

Finally, I mispoke in regards to the Runabout-like bridge. What I was really referring to was something with a viewport similar to a more elaborate version of the Odyssey bridge's ("Aquarius" - blegh, confusing) lower deck. Though, having taken a closer look at the Aquarius escort in Demorecord... I guess that doesn't make any sense. There's no viewport... and the vertical slits in front of the upper hump are docking slots, according to CapnLogan.

So, yeah, a "within hull" bridge module, probably under the small lighted circle thing on top of the Aquarius escort, would probably fit.

I meant the comment about being sick of the Akira!

...This said, you do have one point in that the Akira is one of the only options at that tier that is appealing at that point in the game. No one likes to fly the golf ball, and I fly the heavy cruisers grudingly at best.

The Akira represents something of a "happy place" for with respect to canon ships on the way to Rear Admiral. Everything before her feels a little bit like a throwaway, making this ship come across as being the first "real" ship you command.

On the topic of the Aquarius though... I very much like Leviathan's suggestion of making it Starfleet's "Half way" between the Defiant and the Bugship. In addition to filling a hole in the escort line, it makes a lot of sense in a post-Dominion war setting. Moreso given the events of the 2800.
