Yeah, I used to grind dilithium until I figured out 'why am I working for 35 cents an hour?'

# 32 My Thoughts

The Gal X is not a p2w ship it is far from indestructable especially in pvp, I got it free through referals before f2p used it for about a month then stopped, recently I started using it again and it is improved but not so greatly it is unstoppable. I have torn Gal X apart in an escort and even a sci ship just as I have done likewise using the thing it is all about how a player skills and uses their abilities.

That said the new Variants of the Oddy coming out are a casue for concern purely for the fact they have the free special power (especially sensor scan), extra console slot and the rest I am inclined to believe this is veering on P2W and like others have said it is a kick in the face to the many players who have put their hands in pockets so many times before to buy T5 ships.

I am curious why create 3 variants of the same ship in the 1st place? Not everyone wants a cruiser, for me I like my Tac to play hard and if necissary die fast if I go boom, I go boom, I like my Sci to have to be inventive and have to move to utilise abilities to take out cruisers not just warp in park up and hit a few hot keys, and if I want to mix up classes there is nothing stopping me by getting the right boffs it's easily done. As a Cruiser the ship is very nice and with the turn tates etc.. it is good for purpose despite being a bit too overpowered.

Also many of the true Trek fans will be disgruntled as they want to fly their Ent, Defiant and Voyager, with the introduction of this new ship they will feel that they are being disadvantaged using the ship that possibly inspired them to play. While obviously the game needs to progress and new ship choices for the sake of fairness and value for money to the people have previously spent there should be some kind of upgrade to the T5 models that are out, perhaps an extra console slot at the least or a lt com universal slot replacing the set in stone tac, eng or sci that exists.

This is only my opinion and not stated to rub anyone up the wrong way.

Or "Pay For Power." Which is to my mind more accurate. You're not buying "I Win" buttons, but you are buying measurably 'better' things.

This game will always be about pay to win, you don't need the Odyssey and Bortas'qu in order to see that.

I would say PvE pay to get there faster would be more appropriate. I played another F2P game. When I started I was concerned I would be pennied to death, Brit we don't have nickles or dimes, but as it was free I decied I would give it a go anyay.

I was chating in the game and asked about this. All in all the answer was no, you can get everything in game that can be bought, it would just take you a lot longer to get it. As with the dilithium exchange I could buy their "cash" currency for ingame currency, however unlike here I could also get every physical item sold in the cash shop in game, it either lasted for a shorter time, were temporary or take a while to get it. This did not include the xp boost and other none items.

The cash shop just made it faster and easier to get to the destination. Which was of no concern to me, I like the journey.

Well, look at it this way...
The game is totally free to play now, no money needed or earned...
So, they have to have something to sell you to make money to continue to fund the Dev team and resources needed to keep the online status.
So, they make these "slightly better than the free" ships, which the need to be to convince folks to buy them
after all, why buy them if they're not better than what you can get for free?
If they have a good amount of sales, they're happy and continue to pump rescources into STO to keep it going and (hopefully) improve it.
No sale = unhappy company, possible layoffs, unwillingness to continue to sink money and resources into the game to keep it going...

So...which would you rather...?

I used to play this MMORPG awhile back where if I wanted the best item in the game for my character I would have to play the game to get it. And do so in co-op mode.

I know, crazy concept isn't it?

Of course, you are correct, I think many people forget at the end of the day Cryptic is a business and the number one goal of any business is to make money now and in the future. They will pitch the price what they believe the market can stand, too high and they will still get sales but lose out on volume, too low and the ROI will take too long. Thus I feel they have pitched it about right to get a reasonable ROI in a reasonable time frame.
