I find a bigger issue balancing the T4 and 5 existing ships against the new +1 ones. Unless every player is willing to spend the money to get the +1s. I guess we'll see what's going to happen...

Oh yes.. 5 Engineering consoles!! OMG!! And most people who buy them probably get all 3 consoles.. so your loading your ship up with 3 consoles , plus whatever other gimmick consoles you had like the Graviton Pulse Generator.. suddenly.. the space for the standard consoles we use and love.. is getting very very slim.

Ehi, the damned Borthasqu has FIVE tac consoles! And you are criticizing the 5 eng consoles of the Odyssey...but...argh!...I better shut up...

I wouldn't gripe. The Odyssey, though a fine ship, is a big, slow, obese garbage scow that can't get out of the way of something not even moving.

I love the ship. Wish I hadn't deleted mine.

But it will never be an escort. It will never whip through pvp matches squirting death and rage while the crew sings dirge songs of glory and death.

The crew might sing dirges for not being able to punch and kill opponents, but rather take damage, take damage, take damage, turn a little, take damage, take damage.....

Lighten up and rejoice that STO has issued a new ship, some new ideas and such an issue promises similar new issues in the future for escorts and science ships.

As other posters pointed out, the 5th Engi Console slot is simply to make the Operations Odyssey more attractive when using all 3 consoles for the set bonuses. I doubt many dumped 2k CP's into the Operations Ody, alone, just for an extra console slot.

seriously, its a T6 vessel so is the bortas, it bout time we started sein the T6 line, and soon the level cap will increase imo, Im a tac fed and chose the sci oddy, and went with bortas command ship for my klink tac for the boost the the sheilds. The T6 escort and sci line of ships will be made avaliable at somepoint, just hunkerdown, use whats best for your playstyle till then and well.. wait.

Look where we are now.
1) These are not +1 ships. The Devs have said so.
2) The Rhode Island is not overpowered for its tier, even as +1. The Devs have said so.

So we have no reason to complain, really.

To be honest, I don't really know why the Devs cannot come out and say: "Yes, the Odyssey is a +1 Tier 5 Cruiser. Deal with it." I find their current statements either dishonest or misguided. Neither reflects well on them. The best case scenario is they think more consoles, universal slots and more hull and shields and sensor analysis don't affect balance and can be compensated by a lower turn rate. But then a whole set of different ships don't make sense.

The Excelsior must actually be more powerful than the Sovereign with that mindset, since it does have a higher turn rate, and turn rate can compensate, hull, shields, console slots, universal slots? All Klingon Cruisers must be significantly overpowered in turn, as they have a significantly higher turn rate plus a cloak.

It just doesn't make sense.
